Hi All,
Do you know of any good brand of paper engine air filter, besides K & N filter or stock filter from dealers? I do see a few people were asking about replacing an air filter, but was led to K & N filter and no suggestions on any paper air filter.

Thanks much

paper filters suck....why would you want to put that back in? Comptech also makes a replacement filter but it is foam - not paper

Im not sure if a good paper filter actually exists....

In the long run you will save money if you get a K&N filter. All you have to do is clean it every so often and you are good to go. You will never have to worry about getting a new filter again!

I would suggest the K&N as well, i'll be getting one for my car as soon as i get around to changing it. It's got lifetime warranty and all you need to do is clean it. You may also get a few extra ponies from the better air flow through it too.

I'm going to try an original response here and actually answer the dudes question.

I have heard good things about the puralator brand of air filters. I've heard bad things about, and would stay away from Fram. Like most of this forum, I'm perfectly happy with my K&N, but am trying to answer your question as asked. If your primary objective is quietness, than the paper filter will meet your needs at the expense of a pony or two.

Best of luck with whatever you choose.

03 TL-S Air Filter
Thank you very Guys for the info. Thumbs Up on K & N.

Questions:

1. How louder is it comparing to foam or paper filter?

2. How hard is it to clean and re-oil the filter?

3. I also heard that if not re-oiling the filter properly will damage the o2 sensor, is this correct?

4. Could I get the K&N model# for 03 TL-S Auto Transmission.

Thanks much

1. Not much at all. You will only notice a very slight increase in intake noise at peak redline rpm (over 6K). Many users say they can't even tell.

2. Not hard at all. Hose it out. Let it dry. Spray the oil (It comes it a little spray bottle). Pop it back in. Done.

3. No, This will not damage your o2 sensor. Not cleaning and reoiling the filter may eventually cause a drop in gas milage (just like any dirty filter), but it would not affect your o2 sensor in any way.

4. Here you are: 2003 ACURA TL Type-S 3.2L V6 F/I - All Filter 33-2178

Hope this helps.

K&N Air Filter
Great! Could I get the Recharger kit # as well. I can't wait to get the K&N filter to try it out. I thought I read it somewhere mentioned the k&n filter# is 33-2133. Am I wrong?

Really Appreciate It.

Not sure where you got that part number, but here is a link to the K&N site that describes which one is correct for the 03 3.2 TL-S:

http://www.knfilterchargers.com/sear...x?Prod=33-2178

You can place your vehicle info in their home page and get the same result for your self.

Oh, and filters and recharge kits are sold at national chains such a Pep Boys, Advance, & Autozone, so you can get both the filter and recharge kits there.

True true. Easiest/fastest way to get one would be to have one of the local shops order one for you as you can save on shipping and then just pick up a recharge kit when you need to clean it later on. I think i checked last time at autozone and they were good about ordering those. But, of course, internet is almost always cheaper if you can find it online from a good vendor, you might come out ahead the most that way. I'm having a hard time finding aftermarket stuff for the 2G TLS though. Good luck and let us know how you like it if you go that route!

I didn't have to order mine. Just pulled it off the shelf and paid for it and popped it in. I guess it just depends on how well they are stocked. I paid $51 or so but I didn't have to deal with shipping or waiting.

Watch out for Ebay. The Type-S uses 33-2178 and NON Type-S uses 33-2133. There is a little difference in the dimensions for some reason. Type in the product specs on K&N's website and you can compare the two. I can't find the 33-2178 on Ebay yet.......

I think they meant MAF sensor. It should be fine, but don't over-oil the filter, because if you get oil on the MAF sensor, it will get damaged, and you'll be out about $200 if memory serves. And the dealer will not cover that under warranty, as they'll say it was caused by over-oiling your K&N.

My filter was dirty and so I bought one from the dealer and replaced it yesterday - what is the deal with oiling it - I didn't oil it - I just replaced the old filter and put the new one in - just cleaned the housing properly .

Please advise on the oiling.
Thanks

The oiling is for K & N or foam filters, not for paper ones.
