02 Maxima vs 99 tl
I have had this 02 Nissan Maxima se for 2 days now (rental) and I have to say I am impressed with the maxima. The build quality is there and the interior isnt all that bland. I can say the Maxima seems to have less noise than the tl but the handling is pretty sh#tty. The car all around is pretty good and would take it over the accord v6 . The hids were nice aswell . Anyone else dive 02 maxima yet? I have yet to drive the tl -s but the 02 maxdima has got some balls when accelerating. I love my 99 tl but I have to say Nissan is coming with the fire .
The 02 maxima should have no problem with our 99 TL (255 v. 225 hp). If the 99 TL is modded then it will be a toss-up (auto max only). The manual will kill us.
That's why we let the TL-S guys handle them.
But don't get me wrong, I LOVE MY 99 TL!

from a stop no.....on the highway it is possible. in the 1/4 mile the maxima has about a second on us (at least that was the difference between my time and a stock max at the time). on the highway though when we raced he was only able to pull on me once i hit 4th gear (99) @127 and then once i got more into the powerband again we were pretty much accelerating at the same rate and i was about nose to tail with him and actually seemed like i started to gain on him a little bit. this is when i had sri, pulleys, no exhaust (sold and needed parts to come in to put on my old one) as my only mods. i think in that race a tl with headers could pull it out because all the power gained would be put to use (4000+ rpm) just my .02.

An automatic Maxima SE VS an automatic TLS is the only chance and that would solely depend on the drivers in both vehicles.
Nissan & Honda are both fully aware of this. Nissan has the lead right now. Honda will take the lead again when they introduce the next generation of engines. However, they will never be able to touch the upcoming G35. At least, not without a new compact model and rwd......my .02......

well one of my friends has 01 Maxima Se.... and another friend of mine has a 99 TL. Both Stock, and they went out racin a couple nites ago, and I was in the TL. The TL won 8 out of 10 times. The 2 times we lost was because of too much wheel spin of the start

Stock 02 automatic Maxima's run a 14.6-14.7 at the track. My friend has a TL-S and his dad has an 02 Max auto. When he drives his dad's car he notices a great deal more torque off the line in the Max.

Nissan/Infiniti are making the moves to globalize their platform all that is know is that the Max, Alti, Quest will be on the SS-L Platform.
The G35, 350Z, GT-R will be on the FM platform. If Infiniti continues to produce the I35 it will be on the SS-L platform. No mention has been made of the fate of the I35 though, so who knows.

Of course the Maxima 3.5L will win. it has just as much horsepower with more torque. I've seen stock dynos posted here or on Acura-cl and the TLS/ CLS seem to dyno around 200hp at the wheels. SCC just dynoed the Maxima and it did 211 hp and 218 ft/lb or torque. Can anyone confirm what I just said? Anyway, the Max has 0.3L more than Acura so all Acura has to do is raise the displacement a little.

Appears Nissan's new owner's strategy is to mirror that of Fernand Piech at VW/Audi an hope for the same success story.
For my money VW/Audis are some of the finest (elegant/sporty) cars engineer today (appears Nissan feel's the same way).

As a matter of fact , if you look at the tail lights on a Q-45 they appear to be lifted from an Audi A6/A4 ('02). Additonally, the roof line on the Altima could have been lifted from the Passat/A6 not to mention those Avante Grade tail lights.
