How many of you think that it would be cheaper to modify a 00,01' TL compared to the 02'TL? How many of you think it would be worth it and are you willing to trade your TL now for a type-s? Just curious cause I am leaning both ways. Thanks!

Depending on what you want the plain TL may be enough for for you... if that's the case get the '01 TL and be done with it...
If on the other hand you like to have the latest and the greatest wait for the TL-S or better yet run to the dealer and order it right now...

Just my 2 cents...

I'm looking at that very same issue right now... I won't mod my TL, but I'm trying to decide on a 2000 or 2001 TL w/Nav, or a 2002 TL-S w/o Nav. With the deals that I've been hearing, I'm thinking I could save $100 or more on my lease payment by getting a 2001 or 2000 and pick up the Nav for no extra charge. I'm going to go by my dealership today at lunch and talk to my friends that own it and pose the option to them and see what figures they bring back from American Honda. I'm starting to get close enough to the end of my lease that I need to line things up so that if a killer deal comes along I'm ready to act on it. As far as I can tell, what seems the new biggies are the front end styling, quieter mirrors, clear rear turn indicators, 6 disc CD Changer standard, and fog lights. On the Type-S you get even more, the sooped up powerplant, 17" rims, Preforated leather, VSA, white/silver instruments, and sportier suspension. Personally the only reasons why I'd go with the S is the preforated leather and VSA, the extra ponies isn't a big thing to me, I mean it's great, but I'm not going to be running the car hard very much. I'm starting to think I'd rather have the extra money rather than the extra ponies.... Not sure at this point because I don't have figures, but this does raise a good question.... What was a great value could get even better if you play your cards right.
I have been pondering the same question with my 99. I don't have the Nav but I want it now and that would be a great option. Instead of dumping $4000 on mods, just add it to a down payment.

- Under Body Kit
- Rear Wing Spoiler
- 26 Piece Wood Grain Console
- BurlWood Shift Knob
- 30% Smoke Tint
Consider also that a 260hp Type-S will cost more in insurance than the "plain" 225hp version.
Couple those savings with the lower cost of the car and you can get a lot of mods over the life of the note on the car, especially considering that the extra couple grand for the Type-S will add even more interest to the note or lease.

I think we all have been thinking about this upgrade ever since the new Type S came out.
I don't see any other option, but to just get the new Type S. There are tons of TLs out there, but the Type S is like the top of the line model, Limited Version, High Performance, latest and the greatest. You can't beat that :-) And you know how us guys are, we want the latest and greatest and best.
Always get your car fully loaded, so you don't have to spend too much more money afterwards. Get NAV TOO! The more toys the better!
