Hmm... I'm thinking it would be a great race. But you do have 18s so I'll not make a prediction. Just run him and find out for sure.

i'd have to say you're going down...some IS drivers can stick with and/or beat stock TL/CL-S...watch yourself

tell us what happened though!

I dont think an auto IS can beat a TL-s or a CL-s. It would be close and fun, but no way.
A 6 speed manual IS may make it more fun, but I would still put my money on my TL-s. A friend I work with has an '03 IS with a 6 speed and everytime he drives my car he says it would blow the doors off of his. He never wants to race to see, because statistically, he will lose.
IS's are pretty heavy for the size and slightly under-powered.
A TL-p, well, that would be close and I cant tell you who I'd put money on.

Do it and let us know!

Any IS300 without significant mods will lose to a 2002 TLS. Doesn't matter if it's manual or automatic. In my opinion, a TL-P vs an IS300 is a much better match, with the advantage going to the TL-P unless the IS300 is a manual. Then it may have a chance.

If you dont win, I'll be nice and pay for some driving lessons, but I will also kick your ass. With that being said... go and show him what the TL can do. Gluck!!

We know the IS 300 is slower than the TL-S. He said TL-P. Which means this race is a toss up.

If you don't win that, you just can't drive.. I test drove a 02 IS300 and it was weaker than my friends 99. But you can make a IS300 faster than any TL will ever be. But I didn't like the how quickly the suade interior fades and was all shitty after only a year and a half.. Also the front gauge cluster looked dinky and small, cheap platic, no interior trim, and lacking hp and tq out of everything.

I have a buddy who has an '03 IS300 5MT premium and I love it. Its definately quicker than my '99 TL but my '04 TL takes him. There is something fun about a RWD MT though... something the FWD TL's can't touch...

And yes, the IS300 can be made A LOT quicker than any TL. He is in the process of twin turbo for his IS300.

I have an 9 TL-p stock, and I once casually raced an IS from a red light, Im not sure what year it was, and i was in SS and didnt shift until close to red line, and he easily beat me. Not sure if it was stick or not, or what mods the guy had, but it looked pretty stock

Maybe the TL-P it can beat, but I raced my friends 01 IS Automatic and I got him right fromt he start. It was too easy.

Then I raced another friends 02 Manual IS and we were neck and neck till my 2nd gear Vtech where the inching began.

So the TL-S can beat the IS300 no matter what year or transmission it has as long as it's stock?

For sure.

TL-s would spank any stock IS300, manual or auto.

my tl-p and his is are both stock and auto. he claims that since the IS is all wheel drive, he would KILLLLL me. not even keep it close. at times when i floor it at a red light, the car takes off a lil slow so i think there is something wrong with it so i need to take it in for a check-up. i hope she's ok :'( but after that im gonna race his ass and we.ll c whassup

Its in black and white...

I hope your friend is kidding or you goofed.
IS's are rear wheel drive!
But if that is what he has been telling you, tpatel, you better race and kill him, or keep up to him just for him not knowing anything about his car! lol...

There is so much B.S in this thread.
IS 300 is 5 speed manual. Reason offered, it could handle the power of the I-6. THe IS 200 has a 6 speed manual but that is for a less powerful engine.
If you noticed, the manual IS came out in 2002, a year later. That is because Lexus wanted to ensure the tranny doesn't turn to shit like what is happening here.
The IS is RWD, a shortned GS platform. No AWD. I have not seen or read of anyone modding one to be AWD either.

Again, IS vs TL-P, IMO is a toss up with the IS having a better chance. The IS stands no chance against a TL-S

^^my man is right as hell...here i'll drop some stats and thoughts.

5spd manual IS300 has the same time stats as the '00TL...0-60:6.9s...on the other hand an auto IS300 would be a good match for a stock '99...0-60:7.4 '99 and 0-60:7.3 IS...AND it will all depend on the start and who can SS better.

but if your on a '00 vs a stock auto IS300, it will be close, but you will be ahead.

i had intake/headers/cat back/pully/plugs/Type S Throttle Body/ springs/ shocks/tires. I raced my boy's IS that had intake/exhaust/tires/suspension. His was a 5 spd. He got me by about a half a car length off the line, but i quickly caught and passed him on the 1-2 shift. I beat him by like 3 cars till 80. Then we ran from a 40 mph roll. I got him by about 5-8 cars till 120.

just your car stock could keep up with the IS...with those mods you can take on a type-S...not to mention the massacre with your FIREbird.
