$220 to replace an OEM tire!!!

I walked into my garage this morning to go to work and what do I see??? Front drivers side tire is dead flat! FU**! So, I pull out the jack and the spare and change the tire. Drive the car over to Direct Tire, where I get all my tire and oil change work done, and they look at the flat and it has a tear in the side wall about 1/4" from the edge of the rim. The tear was between 1/4 - 1/2" long, and you could see a bit of a bubble under the rubber. There was no damage to the rim that I know of. It must have happened on my drive home last night. I am positive I didn't hit anything....not sure how this could have happened....anyway....a replacement OEM tire cost me $179 plus balance, stem, recycle and the road hazard warranty they offer. What sucks is that I was planning on replacing all four tires next summer with 225/55/16 and a better tire. Now I have one brand new tire and three tires with 30K on them. Just thought I'd share my story with you guys! What a way to start the day, hah??

The tire itself cost me $179, plus the other stuff....valve, balance, etc....I chose to get the roadhazard warranty, which was $18.
Is our tire a R rated tire or VR rated tire?
They have on the receipt that they put on a 205/60/VR16 tire?
I looked up the tire on tirerack.com and it is $131....WTF!!!

allright....I called the local Acura dealership and they sell the tire for $159 plus $22 for installation. So, I called Direct Tire and told them they are $20 MORE than the dealership!! They are calling to confirm the price and I am waiting for a call back. I am assuming they are at least going to match the dealer price for the tire....unreal!!!

Trust me....I feel your pain...I replaced 3 tires...I bought them from a tire dealer..not from the acura dealer....It was about $180 installed with road hazard for 3 years or 30,000

Tire Rack usually had the best prices on tire.

I would probably buy replacement OEM tires at Costco if they carried them; the prices may seem a bit higher than the Tire Racks of the world, but their prices include mounting/balancing and road hazard. My mother-in-law had to get tires for her Accord (Bridgestone 195/65/HR15, IIRC), and they were $80 each.

Speaking of tires, is it just me or are Michelin tires (either touring or sport) priced higher than most just because they're Michelin? The Michelins MXV4 Plus (comparable to the Bridgestones that were put on the Accord) for my mom-in-law's Accord were priced $35 more than the Bridgestones.

Hehe, now you know why I bought a used tire off the Black Market just in case.

If someone says they are selling their used tire with more than 30,000 miles on it for cheap, why would you not buy one just in case? It's cheap insurance.

Or have a dealer take off new set for winter/backup! $500 shipped. Bought on EBay.

Sorry to hear of you bad experience swhtech. Hopefully they'll at least match the dealer price. If not buy the tire package from the dealer, don't mount the tire, and return it to Direct Tire!

Update....

Direct Tire ended up matching the dealer price of $159 for the tire....I'm sure there are other local tire places that sell it for even less, but I didn't have the time to start calling around to places....at least I got them to realize that there price was way too high and I got the $20 back.
