$ for oil change at dealer

What does your dealer charge for an oil change? My wife just came back with $100 bill for an oil change. They charged her an hour labor at $76 an hour.

They are freaking insane.

Never again will I do business with that place!

Since I haven't had a chance to call the dealer to challenge them on this bill I won't reveal who they are quite yet. I'll follow up on Monday with the whole story as to why it was $100.

I bet they are going to tell me they did scheduled maintence on the car. But there is nothing about it on the invoice and all my wife asked for was an oil change.

Regardless, I swear to god I am only going to Park Ave. after this. I'll make the trip up there. (45 mins)

I pay 22.95 for oil change and filter. Totals to something like 24.79 with tax.

Having recently been to PAA, I should warn fellow members that the dealership policy has recently changed to allow only Esperanto to be spoken. Be advised that all service advisors are only adept in this language.

Es·pe·ran·to
An artificial international language with a vocabulary based on word roots common to many European languages and a regularized system of inflection.

[After Dr. Esperanto, “one who hopes,” pseudonym of Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof (1859-1917), Polish philologist.]

(For those of a different sense of humour than mine, this is a prank on my part!).

Did the invoice itemize exactly what was done and how much it cost? It's ridiculous that they even billed her an hour for labor although I can see some grease monkey "stretching" the amount of time it takes to change the oil and filter. And $24 for the rest? Even if you take out the tax, that's way too much just for parts, assuming it was just oil and oil filter.

Hopefully there's a more logical explaination for the $100 charge, although they should have told your wife (and given her an estimate work order) right at the outset what was going to be done to the car and how much it would cost to do it.

My dealer charges around $25 after tax and washes the car as part fo the deal. As good as this deal is like to change my own oil. It is quicker and gives me a chance to give the enginebay a once over.

That is almost the same as Park Ave Acura charges. I know because I just had my oil change from there a few days ago. And they even give you free gifts, wash your car, and vacuum it too.

Doopstr- you should go to PAA next time. Then you'll ask yourself why you didn't go there in the first place. Once you go to PAA you will be hooked.

BTW, that $100 charge is freaking crazy. I think they were assuming since your wife was a female and don't know anything about car, they decided to over-charge her. I would definitely go back to them and demand that they show you what they charged! After that tell them that they lost a valuable customer and that you will report them.

Damn!! Wal-Mart charges $11.95 or +$5 for any oil you choose if you don't want their "Supertech" brand..... Even synthetic I believe.

Expert Tire is $14.95 --- I think getting routine maintenance done at a dealer is insane... they are completely overpriced... just find a good mechanic you trust.

Dealers charge avg $29.95 CDN or less. Oil change places and such charge like $19.95 CDN. I do it myself for cheap.

Thats what happens when you send a female . Seriously though, find out what happened. If it doesn't get resolved contact the Acura Regional Rep and report what happened....thats just blatant price gouging...
