"Hold the Line"
In my ongoing quest to find a dealer in Chicago that is selling a TL-S significantly below MSRP, I placed my weekly call to the Chicago dealers to check inventory. Interestingly, I got into a conversation with a sales guy at one dealer (discussed the TL-S, window recall, seat belt recall, etc). When I asked if they were beginning to deal on the car he said "no." I told him that carsdirect.com is selling at list in Chicago, but at $32K for Boston (and other area codes). (Maybe I should take a trip out east) He was surprised that the price was so discounted out east. He indicated that earlier in the week all the sales guys reviewed a video for some VP of Sales for Acura America that told them they should "hold the line" on pricing of the TL-S and not give discounts.
go call my salesman at Alrington Acura in Palatine... his name is Terri, My car was well under MSRP, and they have quite a few in stock, since i bought mine last week. If you can tell him that JESAL sent you....he knows me. I think you can get a TL-S with Navi for like $32,200...good luck
That's total BS!!! I signed the contract just the other day, as soon as I sat down with the sales rep he took $1000 off without me saying a word...in the end I got the car itself for $32,200...after all of the option it was back up to $34,500. Not bad considering I paid $800 over MSRP and got the rear spoiler, underbody kit, blackwood guage cluster, vent trim & steering wheel. I wouldn't settle for paying MSRP and getting nothing else out of it...keep looking you'll find a better deal.
Good luck!!!
Good luck!!!
Everyone,
I don't want to rub it in but in a previous
post I wrote that the 'invoice' price of a base Type-S in Canada is C$37,800. (I got my car for C$1500 over 'invoice' because I knew the sales manager...) If you consider US$1.00 = C$1.52, that converts to about US$25,000.
Call me crazy but I think that Acura of America is totally jacking up the price of the cars in the US. Other than a couple of different warning lights, the US and Canadian editions are identical.
Perhaps that is why some dealerships are very willing to negotiate the price. Everyone is making a killing but it's how much of a killing they are wanting to make.
Power to the Internet so we can find ourselves a better deal!

You forgot to tell them the 8% provincial tax plus 7% GST tax on top of your purchase cost. So the total now is about $44K. Now convert this to US dollars at 1.52 and its about $29,000.
Now tell them how it really hurts YOU when you are paying $44K out of your disposable income to buy this car and someone in the US pays $30K out of their disposable income.
P.S There is sommething called "duties" if you try to purchase cross border.

Yeah I agree the margins on the TLS are insane. But this is a new model just out and I guess the Acura dealers are entitled to making hay while the sun shines.
THe 2002's from Lexus Infiniti Audi Nissan & BMW are still a couple of months away, it was excellent strategy on Acura's part to launch their '02's 6 months ahead of the competition.
At the rate they're going they will probably rack up growth figures in the 30's like they did for last year.
