Screw these calipers and bolt pattern. Weekend Challenge

Hello everyone.

I bought this car not fully taking in the weight of the wheel / caliper situation. I gotta say, I've been tuning cars for the better part of 14 years now and this one has me stumped. I don't like multi spoke BBS forked style rims with a lip much on this car and finding anything outside of that with a clean look is next to impossible. That being said, I want to be the guinea pig in this group but I need a little help.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if anything from the BMW line up will fit on our cars. From what I can see the X3 and X5 lines carry similar offsets upfront ET 45 / ET 40 and a 5x120 bolt pattern. Depending on the spoke design I could see potential in these, for example, looking good. http://www.allfactorywheels.com/prod...ont-71177.html

I know the back is ET 30 and 10.5" so it wont fit but if someone was able to test fit the fronts somehow I would be willing to buy 4 fronts from a wheel dealer and try. Anyone know someone with this car and would be willing to try and pop one on for fitment? Obviously the tire size will also be different but for brake caliper clearance sake.

Has anyone tried it?

There are numerous BMW wheels that have been run here, real and knockoff. The knockoffs are very heavy and prone to cracking. The real ones are $$$. It also happens that there are numerous wheels that are made to fit the RL. Ron Jon and TSW are the first to come to mind.

If your are really into tuning and reducing unsprung weight, TSW will give you much more than an SUV wheel.

I use the term tuning liberally to mean changing a vehicle to appear and perform the way i like. Not necessarily better. I know that sounds weird but I am coming from the euro VW / Audi tuning community and often performance gets traded for aesthetic gain. haha!

That being said while I can appreciate the wheel examples you showed from TSW, I prefer a wheel like this and it has been done on our cars but required custom drilling from the factory and a spacer. The fit is a little too aggressive for a daily as well.

This type of wheel with a bigger face is what Im looking for but Im at a loss and willing to go SUV if it achieves the look.

Any ideas?

Most BMW wheels don't fit due to caliper clearance, something that cannot be determined by looking at widths and offsets. It is all in the wheel design itself. BMW brake components sit further inboard on the hubs than our cars so they don't need as much clearance from the spokes on the wheel.

Nichole Richie is expensive too, but that doesn't make her look any better.

I hate to do this being so new to THIS forum but theres always someone like you so....

The more I see you post, the less I think you know anything about the car enthusiast scene and are a total keyboard warrior. First thing, you don't call someone else' style ugly just because you dont enjoy it. I didnt even ask your opinion. Second thing, what looks good on one car may not look good on all cars, these wheels for example look like dog shit on some cars but great on others.

You had tint, a hardwired radar detector, subs and some HID fogs. What are you even doing on an enthusiast forum if your going to come into every post and badmouth it?

I personally don't think these wheels are ugly. They're simple and super high quality, not over engineered with a bunch of bolts and a huge lip. Plus the fitment is aggressive which, if you visit either coast sometime, you'd understand is exactly what the car game is all about these days.

Wow just realized that the three guys who contribute to the majority of the posts in this forum are total dicks. No wonder this section of this forum has so little activity. Ill leave you three to play with each other some more.

If you took the time to notice those guys contribute to the majority of these threads, then you should have noticed they are the ones that give the most informative advice. Who cares if they don't like the wheels of your choice. This forum is dead because not many people modify RL's. As the selling price drops more people will show up here, but unfortunately we all know the IQ will drop with it.

ROFL. Dang. Somebody sure is sensitive. And, for the record, I did not give my personal opinion on the wheels you're looking at. You basically declared that how much a wheel costs has anything at all to do with how they look. That's just silly. All I said is that I can find you plenty of examples of ugly ass wheels that cost a shit load of money. I could give two shits what you do with your car. You can paint it pink and put Hello Kitty stickers all over it for all I care. You're the one that has to look at it every day, not me.

^^^For real. Obviously the OP disregarded my first post in this thread and instead decided to take a different post completely out of context and get his panties in a wad.

It's funny how in this thread:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...5#post14739405

oo7 was nice enough to actually look around threads and find 6 different RL's with painted grills to try to give you an idea of how it would look if you painted your grill. Yet in this thread, you call him out as being a "total dick" just because he is also entitled to his own form of style and doesn't like your wheels. Welcome to the forums, SEARL. I don't know if you just now acquired access to the internet or not but you'll find in your journey online that not everybody is going to be on the same page as you.

Slow your roll there buddy. I'll break it down for you.

I don't think you have actually read all that many posts here which is why I called you a noob the other day. I was a noob once just like everyone else here. This sub-forum has been here 9 years now. There is a plethora of information here to school yourself on modding an RL. I suggest you eat before you talk.

If you don't want an opinion, don't post on a forum with open comments. Create a blog that only you can write on.

You aren't the first person to want to put HR3s on your RL. ble214 considered them before you, and my opinion of them on any car hasn't changed.

Maybe you could find the last post I badmouthed before this thread and all the posts in between. Should be pretty easy if it happens for all of them. While you are at it, you should consider what exactly it is that I was badmouthing.

I was unaware that I had to throw gobs of cash and time at a depreciating, material item to appreciate cars, to want to learn everything about the RL, and to help people who have questions about their car.

Your last two sentences were all you needed to write. Welcome to the world. It's a beautiful place where we all have opinions and not all of them are the same all the time. If you like those wheels, buy them and put them on your car. After all, it is YOUR car, not mine. In my opinion, I like the BMW wheels you first suggested better than HR3s. Which years/styles on the X3 or X5 were you talking about?

I understand the car game. Some people think that what you drive, what you wear, and who thinks you are cool is important in life. I think having a car that can safely drive down the highway at 75 mph day in and day out without risking someone else's life is important. If it looks good doing it, then all the more power to ya.
