Rear Differential Replacement

Took my 06RL with 40K miles in for a B16 service. Also noticed a rear diff leak that I asked them to look at. After a couple of hours they tell me they are going to have to replace the rear diff. Acura tech line supposedly told them it needs replacement. Should I be worried since this is such a major job and has anyone else encountered this? I'm starting to wonder what else may be going on with the RL that could be causing this.

Not to dig up and old thread, but the same thing just happened to my 05 (77200 on the odo) yesterday... except they let me leave and supposedly the "speed sensor" fell off into the diff and "blew the rear end". (the quotes are vebatim what the service tech told me)

I have to wait for a adjuster to come out and look at it for the extended warranty.

Did they fix yours under warranty?

Mine was replaced under warranty, and thankfully so: about four grand.

good to know... yeah the service manager said 4200 just for the diff.

I'm kind of stressing it a little, I looked all of the TSB's and only saw one to check the diff, nothing about replacing anything.

Plus I'm stuck in an '10 TSX... I've already pulled out in front of traffic twice and forgot I wasn't in my car.

Sounds like some real education there, since our cars don't have a "rear-end." I've been working for the same Acura dealer since '00 and have never replaced a diff. on any RL, sounds like an isolated case. The MDX is a different story though.

Regardless of the verbiage the 4200 bill is in plain English.

Note that this is only labor and the loaner car. The diff was supplied by the warranty company.

For anyone who has Route66 extended warranty, dont expect them to take care of you... this has been the biggest PIA I have had with this car and its all because of the warranty company.
