Stick with the 40 series profile, especially if you have rough roads and potholes.

Just out of curiosity, why go to a larger rolling diameter? 245/40-19 is almost a perfect match for OEM, 3 mm larger. Why make the gearing taller than it already is with the larger tire?

Just my 2 cents

I have 255/40/19 Yokohama Advan S4 and with A-spec suspension I love it.

Any size over 17" is going to adversly effect the comfort factor. The side wall is going to be less and it's going to be stiffer so don't look for comfort.

I respectfully disagree with you on this in depending on the tire profile. I do not believe that a 45 series in 18" will adversely affect ride, but rather improve it, and also believe that about the right 40 series tire in 19", but will agree with you that a 35 will degrade the ride.

I have the OEM PAX tires which are equivalent to 245/45-18. Based on test drives of the RL with and without, the 18" tires handle and ride better than the 17" OEM 245/50-17s , and also seem quieter. I was actually pleasantly surprised after expecting the opposite after reading reviews of the zero pressure construction run flats (Zero pressure run flats have a different theory and construction than PAX. PAX, in many ways, is much closer in construction to a standard tire, having a much less stiff sidewall than the zero pressure run flats).

I was really convinced that CMBS and ACC was good thing to have, but the whole deal was on the fence because of PAX, not because of the equivalent 18" size and shorter section, but because of the potential service hassles. I prejudged that the ride would be degraded on the 18's, however, after test drive, the superior handling and ride over the 17's was one of many factors that pushed me over the edge to buy the CMBS/ACC/PAX package.

I was a bit nervous about ride quality myself, but I'm on 255/35/19 and even in new york city my car rides really nice. More like a german car. It's all about suspension tuning. Grip levels have gone up more than 50% over stock which is welcomed on my favorite twisty roads.

For brands and your climate I'd suggest the Goodyear F1's. Very quiet for a ultra hi performance summer tire and the grip is amazing.

I disagree totally. 18's do stiffen the ride a bit, but it is hardly uncomfortable. The ride is incredibly smooth except over the bumpiest roads. 19 inches I wouldn't consider, but only because I pop a tire a year, on average, and need low-cost replacements.

did your 255/40/19 go on stock wheels (17x8?) or you had to upgrade them?

This is not physically possible due to the fact that the rim/wheel would get lost in a 19" tire, and vice versa if you try to put a 17" tire on a 19" rim/wheel. You have to upgrade one if you upgrade the other unless you stick to the same wheel size, and even then, width can be an issue ...

I second that. I am running the Eagle F1 GS D3's (245/40-19) and they are a great set of tires. Quiet and grippy as mentioned.

I have 255/40/19 and the ride is OK from the OEM 17's, the grip is way better and my gas milage went from 25/26 to 21/22. Better grip = more friction = more energy = more gas = more money.
