How does TPMS know which tire?

I have the 06 RL and have decided to keep it as my daily driver instead of keeping my leased 2018 Genesis G90. I'm fixing it up a little so I'm getting new wheels. I presume I'll have the tire shop take the original TPMS sensors out of the old OEM wheels and put them in my new ones. Is there much programing involved? Also, how does the tire know its' new position after rotation?

No programming involved at all. These self learn. Do not let the tire shop charge you for a re-learn! There is a "pick up" inside each fender to sense the TPMS. Whenever I switch my wheels from summer to winter I don't need to care which corner the wheels go on. The RL will figure it out.
