TPMS and Compact Spare
I have a 2006 TL/AT. Last evening on the way home my “Low Tire Pressure” indicator came on so I punched up the tire pressure and was watching the back left tire pressure drop about 1 psi every 15 seconds or so. 23 ….. 22 ….. 21 .... etc.
Luckily I was very close to home and when I pulled into the garage it was at about 10 psi. There was a pretty good sized chunk of metal in the tire tread, so I put the compact spare on and got the tire fixed this morning (I am glad it was repairable as there is only 6,000 miles on the tire). Firestone quoted me $205 for a new Turanza and tirerack.com was $196 delivered for a single tire.
The interesting thing was the reaction of the TPMS system with the compact spare. I figured I would get a TPMS error with the compact spare, but the TPMS actually read out 58 psi! Which is what was in the compact spare when I checked the pressure before I put it on the car. However, after driving for about 10 minutes with the compact spare I got a TPMS error and there were no more readings for any of the tires. (The tire I removed was in the trunk).
I did not think the spare had TPMS? How was it that the readout said 58 psi. but then went into an error mode?
In any case, I was glad I had the TPMS system. It worked well.

When the TPMS starts up the default is 58 or 59psi. I just upgraded to Apsec Rims when I first checked the TMPS they were at 58 or 59 psi. Once I got going it started to show correct pressure.
