depax / 2009 OEM question

I am looking to depax my 2006 using the 2009 OEM wheels. Does anyone know if the center caps and be used in the 09 wheels? I will also need TPS sensors since I do not plan to re-use those (leaving the pax tires on the wheels).

Thanks/

Where are you getting the 2009 wheels? If you buy them new, they come with the center caps... if you get them as take-offs from a 2009, you'll probably get the caps too.

But if you really need them, they have a different part number than the 05-08 center caps, so technically they are different... whether they will fit anyway, I don't know for sure.

You definitely need new TPMS sensors... you can get those on E-Bay or dealer either way.

Getting them off of ebay and no caps are coming with them. I will get them and have them on hand since my pax are slipping in the rain.

Also, trying to figure out whether the pax lugs will work on these. One of Chas' post led me to believe I wont need lugs.

thanks.

Yes, the pax lugs will work on the 2009 stock rims. You only need new lugs if you are going to the 05-08 standard rims or the a-spec rims.

I saw the remanufactured 2009 wheels on e-bay for $200 a piece. I was so tempted to get them, but then I went for new a-spec wheels instead because I feared the quality and durability of refurbished wheels. I think I like the look of the 2009 wheels better, but they cost so much new! Then you have to add the TPMS sensors still, whereas the a-spec wheels come with them already.

Hope this helps...

I figured based on his feedback I would try them out. A friend at a tire shop states refurbed is usually touching up the wheel (painting or whatever). I am in no hurry so I have time to check them out prior to mounting.
I am on the fence about the tpms. The tire shop says they can cut the old ones out of the pax but I may want to hang on to those ... for some reason... dunno yet. I will be buying some of those I guess.

I made a spare tire kit using a half-assed but cheaper method. The dealer gave me an RL spare along with the jack kit from another 2006 but wrong size. I bought a 5x120 to 5x115 wheel adapter (with all necessary lugs). Fits and clears OK.

Did you buy the wheels yet?? I would be interested to hear how they look compared to new... like whether you can tell the difference?

As for the TPMS, I would definitely get new ones. About $150 total for all 4. Better than ripping them out of the PAX wheels. Like you said, it's good to have a complete set of PAX for backup if nothing else.

Finally, I don't understand your statements about your spare. If the dealer gave you an RL spare and jack kit from an 06, then you should have most of everything you need. What was the wrong size? If they came out of another 06, they should be perfect as is.

I ordered them and they are on the way. I will update you once received.

The spare kit came out of a non-tech RL and I believe had the 17" wheels (i did not know that when I bought the car). The bolt pattern size was different (5x115) and would not fit (Pax is 5x120). I bought an adapter from a guy on ebay and just one. With the adapter the spare will fit on the car.

Yes, please update me when you get the wheels. I'd like to know your opinion on their condition (how close to new they are!).

As for the spare, are you sure it came out of a 2nd gen RL (2005-2008)?? The non-pax RLs have the same 5x120 bolt pattern in the stock 17" wheels as the PAX ones. In other words, the spare should be a perfect fit even on a PAX car. The ONLY thing you would need though is a set of the FLAT washer-type lug nuts that the non-pax rims use because the spare wheel is designed for those lugs. Or get a spare from the 09 and up RL. That spare should have the wheel designed for the acorn-style nuts on the 09 and up RL and our PAX wheels.

Hope that makes sense!

Megatron is correct. Just having a 17" spare wheel is insufficient. Since this is an all wheel drive car, it is essential that the rolling diameter of the spare tire matches that of the other three tires. Presumably you are staying with the 245/50-17, 245/45-18, 245/40-19 etc. sizes...as you de PAX. You also need those 5 flat washer style lugs if the spare came from a 2005-2008 RL.

I am actually not sure if they changed the spare tire wheel disk for 2009+ to the ball (spherical) seat lug style. It would make sense that they did. The parts catalogs seem to indicate that they did because the PNs are different.

Maybe 037 or someone with a later model RL confirm the lug seat for the 09+ spare.

2005-2008 spare wheel disk is PN 42700-SJA-A81
2009 spare wheel disk is PN 42700-SJA-J52

I am looking to get new TPMS but they are not jumping off of ebay cheap. I will just order these from an acura dealer if anyone suggests one online. The last question do I get 2006 or 2009? Meaning if I have to get 09 to match the rim I don't want them to not be ID'ed by the car.

thanks again

You have to get the 2006 ones. If you get the 2009 ones, they will not register with your car.

This is the cheapest you can get a set of four for:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TL-RL...Q5fAccessories

Even from an online dealer, once you add shipping and handling, it will cost more than the above shipped.

Good luck! And remember to let me know how your wheels look when you get them!

Side note: I just remembered I plugged one of my back PAX tires a few thousand miles ago due to a nail/slow leak. Never got low and nail was not deep.

I dunno, worth mentioning it's held air with a tractor supply type tire plug in it.

Got the 09 Rims

Okay, I was told by an EBAY seller (TPMS seller) the 09s would not fit on my 06. I got the rims only today and put one on the front ... Looks good to me! Clears the brake caliper as stated by all here. The center caps from the PAX wheels definitely fit the 09s.

I attached pics of the wheels from allfactorywheels. Of course balancing will really let us know but visually they look good for refurbed. It will be a while before the Pilots arrived.

There was no doubt that the 2009 wheels would fit perfectly on the 2006. After all, they share the same calipers! The E-Bay seller probably meant that they were not directly swappable, due to the TPMS sensors. That's the only part that is incompatible between the 2009 and 2006.

As for the wheels, I can't tell from the pictures, but can you tell where it was refinished? Or where the flaws were on the wheels? I mean I am SUPER nitpicky, so if you put a new one side by side with one of these, would you be able to tell which is which??

Also, are they real Honda wheels? (i.e. Is Honda stamped on the back somewhere)

The backs of the wheels appears to have overspray or paint but other than that no flaws I notice. The honda stamps on back are all there. Still waiting on my TMPS and tires.

I agree, there was no doubt that they would not fit.

Can you verify that your PAX lugs work just fine on the 09's?

Hey tsi91at,

Any update on your wheels? Get your TPMS sensors yet? Did the wheels balance ok?

Also, on the front finish, still wondering if you can tell the diff if put side by side with a new wheel? (i.e. Can you see where any damage was fixed?)

I am waiting on my tire guy to get the tires in. They are on backorder. TMPS arrived frm ebay. All 4 wheels look good and I still see no damge repair. I have no new wheel to compare to.
As for the lugs, you tell me. Bad angle but the cups for the acorn style lugs look the same.

The lugs from the 06 PAX definitely are the right ones for the 09 wheels. The seat looks the same from your pics and the part numbers are identical if you look up the lugs in the parts catalog.

Let us know when the tires get installed and balanced and get us some pics of everything installed on your car!

Priced out the Pilot A/S Plus out the door for $1200. I asked him to look up the cost on the Toyo Versados. debating on what tire to out on. Got it down to pilots/ toyos and Bridgestone Serenity.

As promised de-paxed 06 tech package. Got the Michelin Pilot A/S sports on the OEM 09 rims. The guy who balanced them said they spun good and no issues at all.

Looks great. Mind if I ask how much you paid for those 09 rims?
I spent number of hours looking of 09/10 take-offs but had no such luck so decided to go with aftermarket.

I got them from http://www.allfactorywheels.com/ and it was around 800 bucks shipped. Used my PAX lugs and centercaps. Had to but TPMS for around 150.

Why does that site say the 2011 RL wheels have a 115 bolt pattern? The 2011 TL wheels say the same thing, and they look pretty sweet.

Because they are not careful. Also I believe that the 4G TL wheels do not have the proper clearance for the RL, even though all the printed specs are identical....8 inch width, +55 offset, 5x120 PCD, 64.1mm hub.

What did you end up doing for a spare? Or did you?
