4th set of tires

just put my 4th set of tires on my 05 (just hit 140K miles)

probably could have made it a few thousand more on last set, but I am driving over a mountain pass that may have snow on Thanksgiving, so thought I would play it safe.

I stuck with the Mich Pilot A/S

46,700 mi seems like a pretty good average for tread life.

I had to replace the OEMs at 40K due to a rock puncture.

I had a similar issue on my 2nd set. I ran over a bolt. It was about 1/2 inch diameter, but punctured tire and got stuck. There was a tire store nearby, so I drove over there to fix. They did not have tires in stock and they refused to fix the tire because of tread depth (or lack thereof).
Had to go to a different place that agreed to fix so I could get home.

Which ones are these, the OEM Pilot HX MXM4's, or another tire such as the Pilot Sport A/S Plus?

Thanks!

Yes, Pilot Sport A/S. They are quieter than the OEMs ansd I'd say perform better as well. Do they even make the OEMs anymore?

I bet if you compared them back to back, new vs. new, you wouldn't think they are quieter. We have the A/S plus on our TL and I was a little bit disappointed in the amount of noise they make for a Michelin. The Pilot HX MXM4 is one of the quietest tires on the road. The problem is that since they come as original equipment on so many cars they are constantly compared in their worn state to whatever brand new tire they are being replaced with. The HX MXM4 is designed to be dead silent. That's why they put them on so many cars as OE tires.

I don't remember if the HX MXM4 were the OEMs on 05RLs, but what ever they were, they were noisey from the get go. I do remember researching why the noise cancellation wasn't working on tire noise right after I bought the car. Found out it was only tuned for engine noise.

A little more info on my tire change. When I dropped car off at tire place, I looked for wheel lock tool. Had RL last serviced at Acura Dealer and they rotated tires. They have always put the tool back on top of the spare. It wasn't there. Looked everywhere and could not find.
Tire place said they could get the locks off. Later, they called and said it took extra effort, but got them off. Fortunately, I still had the regular wheel nuts that the locked ones replaced.

But the problem is the Dealer did not put the tool back and I would bave been SOL if I had a flat somewhere before getting tires changed. I'm due for A1 service soon, so Dealer is going to hear some from me.

I agree.

Bought a set of new Pilot Sport A/S and they were much noisier than my used set of MXM4! Go figure!

^^^Wheel locks. Not exactly uncommon. My RL came with them too.

From the dealer/factory or aftermarket? I know what they are, I just don't have them.
