That is not a bad price for the H&R Coilovers. The Tein are 2000$

I noticed you got some H&R also. but yeah the prices are outragous and plus with these springs i noticed they got some dead coils so i can cut at least one to achieve the full 2 inch drop without a bouncy ride. Ive cut dead coils on a mercedes with H&R springs and the ride is still smooth. we shall seeeeeee, i just dont like how the front looks higher but really its just the fender

Really?they got dead springs?I did not notice that.
Same experienced here, I cut dead springs on my benz before and they still ride smooth.
Well good to know, thanks. That'll be my next project before getting Tein Coilover, I know Tein is overprice but I'm getting the EDFC as well so I can adjust the ride comfort

yup the front got dead coils! i would cut the front due to the fact that the front drop for H&R springs arent aggressive and leave the back alone but hey if you want to tuck it you can even cut the back at least one coil!

Question: What are dead coils?

If I can just cut them and save the money for that great drop....then..hmm..

yeah i saw the mugen kit and its just way too pricey! im located in socal. but yeah dead coils are the coils that are very close to eachother and sometimes they touch. The dead coils serve no performance purpose basically. The coils that are active are the ones that are spread part and thats what give you the rebound, its just there for tension. So at the end by cutting them off it wouldnt affect your ride

That is great info. I am going to contact my performance shop and see what is the deal cutting the springs. I need a little tuckage. Not much.

The back also have dead coils? I don't think so, plus the back I think it's low enough, I agreed with you for the front need more drop.
Well it's time to visit the shop then.

I wouldn't cut any coils, isn't that a safety issue?

If you want a big drop, the Teins are costly but are definitely the way to go--this gives you maximum flexibility in setting ride comfort.

cutting dead coils are perfectly safe because they are inactive coils. cutting them will only affect ride height, as long as you dont cut more than 2 coils the ride quality will remain the same

hey rondog im diggin the legend type 2's. do you think its too big for my car? im leaning towards the legend type 2 or the original legends. i got an account with DCH temecula so i plan on getting them sometime soon. also why dont you have 5x120 in the black legend with the redoutline?

Go for it man, I was going the same route with you before but just can't wait.
I'm very impatient person LOL.
Go with Legend type 2 for rear and legend for the front.

New guy here

Nice looking car lstevennl.

I know I am new here but I think I should put in my two sense on cutting coils. There are in fact a such thing as dead coils in a spring but they play a role in spring rates and stress as much as the active coils do. I am linking this page just for people to help understand the physics of a spring because it is written in plain english. Lots of good info there. http://www.stockcarproducts.com/spgtech.htm

It comes down to it is your car and you do what ever you want but I don't want to see people getting in serious accidents or killed out there because they weren't aware of the consquences of their actions.

Cutting coils is illegal in most states too.

Not trying to make people mad just passing on info.

totally understandable. I think every thing should be done at your own risk and i would only tamper with the springs if that person has had experience in the past with cutting coils.Due to past experiences these H&R springs have many dead coils so cutting one coil doesnt hurt

the clarity on the road is definetly much better cause it is much whiter instead on the 4300k where its white and yellowish. i think you already know that 4300k is brighter as in the light travels further but 6k helped me see much better
