Exhaust tip extension...

Okay so today i decided to do the exhaust tip extension mod. So i went to advance auto parts and bought the 2 adapter pipes 2 1/4" - 2 3/8" , two clamps 2 1/4" and high heat spray paint. I had to cut the adapter pipe 1 inch straight into the pipe on the smaller side so i could get it to fit snug. Once I finished the left side i decided this mod was not for me. I personally hated the way the tips look when they are extended past the rear bumper. They also would not stay straight up. The tips would only point downwards. So after taking the adapter pipe off the left side i decided to put the tip back on but not all the way in. to insure it would stay secure i used a longer screw and held it while i fastened it in. This made a HUGE difference in the appearance of the car from the rear and is free. I lost a total of $10 bucks because i can not return the adapter pipes or clamps because i spray painted them black. Overall i like the way it turned out. I posted pictures of before and after of the car with the adapter pipes and without.

all the pictures after this comment are with just the longer screw and no adapter pipe.

this is a shot from the top down with the adapter pipe

this is no adapter pipe

Let me know what you guys think!

I believe they went to longer tips from 06 on to avoid the soot from building up making the tip black. Not sure what impact bringing it further will do or if it will cause buildup on the bumper cover itself.

by bringing it out to the length that i have it, the tips will not get any residue or soot on the bumper because it clears the aspec rear. Adding the aspec kit is the reason why i did this because it tucked the tips in about another inch.

Looks awesome. About to attempt it myself, just wondering why you need the extra length for the retaining bolt?

It looks better, but I will relate one story on a car I had that had the tip extend out beyond the bumper. My mother went to get something out of the trunk and burned her leg pretty well on the extended tip, and had a round circular burn scar on her calf for some time, like a year. She was pissed off.

^ ouch.

Like the tips out further on the body kit. I don't like how the body kit makes the exhaust tips virtually dissapear, looks funny. But now it looks full and meannnn...

Figured out why longer bolt is necessary. Did you move the original retaining clip that is welded to the top of the pipe?

I had to use a longer bolt because the stock one was not long enough to hold the tip secure. The longer bolt holds the tips very securely and they are just shy of extending passed the rear bumper, so hopefully my mom or anyone else wont burn themselves.

24 cents and 2 m6 x 1.00 bolts later, what a difference.

that looks way better, i think acura should do this for us at the dealership for free since their a spec rear lip is a bad design in terms of the exhaust.

Is there any room to move the tips outward with the stock set-up?
