Where to hardwire a radar detector?

Anyone have any suggestions on where I hardwire the radar detector Santa put in my stocking? I don't want to look at the accessory plug in the console all day.

There are already a few recent threads on this exact question with plenty of answers. I wired mine into the rear view mirror. Pop of the plastic cover underneath to review the 3 wires. Splice into them.

Took power for my V-1 from the cig lighter acc on console. Was a bit more work, but I was going to have to run wire down there anyway to put my mute button near the shifter.

Just get a circuit adder thing that takes a fuse and adds another circuit for you to splice into. Very easy

This seems like it's the easiest way...do you have any photos? Did you buy the hardwire kit? I'm looking to do this right away!

Any draw backs from doing it this way?

The cover is up top and just pulls down and slides out. It is either gray, beige, or black depending on the interior of your car. Under this is a white plug with 3 wires. Possible 2 brown and 1 black-do not recall. Past that all one has to do is to simply unplug the white connector, meter the wires to find the 12v and other other is ground and splice in your detector wires.

Others that prefer to use a mute button run the power lower on the console around the ashtray area. As the detector is right above my head anyhow I just turn the knob if I want to shut it up. Choice is yours.

Another alternative

I used one of these to tap directly in to the fuse box. Great product.
