Vehicle is out of the database coverage area
This came out once we exited the city but still within the same province... an hour's drive and the navigation no longer has coverage?
I can think of two possibilities, but I'm not sure which is more likely because I'm not keen on the whole system. Either you were out of range of any satellites, or you were out of the boundaries of your map.
I know the first is completely plausible since Acura built RLs for Alaska and Hawaii without a navigation because they were beyond the range of any satellite. However, I wouldn't expect it to go that quickly with how close you were to Maine.
I am unsure of the plausibility of the second. I know the disc only contains certain regional information, but I don't know what happens beyond the boundaries of it.

I went into the diag/settings section (pressing three buttons together) and checked out GPS, and saw 6 satellites in the little window with their coordinates... yet that message remained.
Dealer. Except I don't feel like paying a couple of hundred in diagnostics for something that was supposed to be working.

When my car was at the dealer last week, the only answer they got is: you have to upgrade to the new Disc.
I think I need to have Acura inquire on this nonetheless with their maps supplier before I pay for a disc upgrade to make sure that's the problem.

There are two map discs if you get the "Canada" map updates: one is Canada and "northern US" (extends down to about NYC area if I recall correctly the last time I zoomed "out" on mine in my 2012), the other one is the US and "southern Canada" which in reality only covers areas of Canada within a few hours of the US border. So it has no coverage at all for NS, PEI, NFLD since these provinces do not border the USA, and has only partial coverage in NB along the Maine border (for example, Fredericton NB is covered, but Moncton is not). I suspect once you get far enough away from the Quebec/US border, that's what's going on, but if you stay in locations that are closer to the border (like Montreal) you still have coverage.
Easy way to check is pop the disc out of your GPS drive in the trunk and see what it says to confirm which disc you have.
If you order the "Canada" disc from the Canadian update site, you get the two disc package (US and Canada discs), you can't pick "just" the Canada disc, while off the US update site they only offer the "US and Southern Canada" single disc.
The mapping data Acura uses in Canada is so horribly outdated it's not worth the update IMHO. The street I live on was extended and connected to a neighboring subdivision over 4 years ago - even the "current" 2017 maps still do not have the street extended, and it doesn't reflect the civic renumbering that was done on the street 5 years ago before the street was extended. And even worse, the bedroom communities of my city were all amalgamated into one city almost 20 years ago - yet the Acura maps still have them all separately identified and defined by their "old" community names, which means you have to know what an area was called 20 yrs ago to be able to search that part of the city for a point of interest like a specific store name like "WalMart" or "Sears". It still thinks there is no Sears location here unless I know to enter the 20yrs ago community name.
