Updating NAV with new DVD- how to?

I bought a new NAV disc off Ebay. There are no instructions how to update my '06 Acura though. I insert the disc, display says "wrong disc, software must be updated".

Is there a special key sequence to force a software update? Or am I missing a PC card to insert into the DVD-rom?

Did you get the so called white disc? See the Acura (really Alpine, the navi supplier) navi update site to understand which disc you should have.

https://store.alpine-usa.com/Acuradv.../naviorder.php

You just slip the new disc in, and the software updates automatically. Of course, the reason the 4.62 has been delayed is because the initial release caused problems for many owners.

Search this subsite for descriptions of problems and solutions.

I got a white disc for '07 RL (which I thought was totally compatible with '06, and the alpine store says it is). The screen says the dealer must upgrade the software.

Curious, what version. The one I got in the fall was 4.62, and I did have to have the dealer reset the mic levels when I screwed it up, after being dumped into the car diagnostics. I have no problems with it now, and the map updates work well.

Do you know what they did? I have a 06 RL and I got a copy of the 4.62 disc and when I put it in, it came up with an error disk and then did some kind of update. Then when it was done. The NAV was working and I could see the updated changes in the road around my area. The next day, I turned on the engine and the NAV went straight to the diagnostics. The only option was to select to "Start the diagnostics" and then even after it's done...the NAV won't come up? Man, I hope I didn't screw it up? Any advice?

No, you just put the old DVD back in and everything will be fine, according to the dealer, anyway. I never had to go back, though, he fixed it...

Thanks...I found the thread after posting my question. Good news to report, I followed the instructions and all is "Good" now. I'm running on the DVD 4.62 version. Not much difference, but now all the roads and stores in my area are showing up now. I live in a fairly new development that went up after the 2006, a lot of stuff was missing....let there be real roads and stores!

This forum is "awesome".... thanks for everyone's input.

I think the biggest update with 4.62 is that it has the new dates for DST.
