accessory power socket in the console just broke

A friend of mine wanted to see the new car this evening and was playing with the power socket on the console, and promptly boke it. It will now not close at all, and hangs open.

I'm suspect this may be a common issue, as I saw several that were broken when I was shopping around for mine...

I am assuming I will need to take it in to the dealer to get it fixed. Any tips on how to make sure it doesn't happen again once fixed? Should I just never use the console socket and only the one under the arm rest?

TIA,

TXTENOR

I fiddle with my power adapter plug thing in traffic all the time and it's never broken. I guess I'll be more careful going forward. Is it possible your friend tired to pull it up from it's normal resting angle?

TXTENOR,

Some of the early RLs had issues with the power port not closing properly. They were corrected by a dealer TSB. I believe that was 2005 models. Is yours a 2005? Irregardless, you dealer may fix it as a TSB repair since it was a known issue.
