UPDATE:: Moto Q

Hey guys, i posted a thread last week asking if anyone had the Motorola Q and how it pairs with the RL. Well i went ahead and switched my service from Sprint and the Treo 650 over to Verizon mainly to get the Q but also to get better coverage. So here's the deal with the Q and how it pairs with the RL...

Good news is that it does pair with the RL. However, one thing that i'm noticing is when you make your first call, w/ my Treo i had to say "transfer" in order to transfer the call to the car, and all other outgoing calls after that would then be automatically transfered to the car. However, with the Q, apparently you have to keep saying "transfer" after you dial a number to get it to transfer to the car's system. I'm still trying to work with it however, and see if there's a workaround to that. For those who've had or have Motorola phones w/ bluetooth and is paired with your car, is there a fix to this or is this how it has to be??

The GOOD part of it is that it displays the signal strength and the battery strength.

Hope this helps. Give me some feedback if you have some available.

I've paired 3 motos with the RL - a V620 and 2 separate RAZR's. All paired no problem. All 3 showed signal strength in the MID but not battery life.

Did you try voice dialing instead of initiating the call from the phone and transferring to the car? Is voice dialing enabled on the phone? One thing I found was to turn "Auto Answer" off in the Headset and Car settings on the phone (the car would auto answer the call but then drop it a few seconds later) but make sure voice dial is enabled. I've had no problems with it.

hmmm... you may have a point with what you said, however, i wasn't able to follow you. This is actually my first Motorola phone being the Q, and so i'm not familiar with the voice dialing. My Treo 650 didn't have this feature, but the Q does. How do i go about doing what you were explaining? In order for voice dial, do i have to have the numbers programmed in the RL itself, or in the phone? If so, how do i initiate a call using the hands free link?

Thanks for the help!!!

Once you have the phone paired, you can voice dial from the car. You do not have to have numbers stored in either the car or the phone in order to voice dial, you just speak the numbers aloud and the car "understands" them. You can't transfer your phonebook from the Moto to the RL, but you can store phone numbers in the car itself if you wish.

To voice dial in the car, press the phone button on the steering wheel and say "Dial". When the prompt comes on, press the button again and say the numbers you'd like to dial "xxx-xxx-xxxx". When the prompt comes on, press the button again and say "Dial" or "Call" and the number will be dialed. (You can also start by saying "Dial xxx-xxx-xxxx"). The Acura Hands Free Link has voice recognition so you can dial numbers just by speaking them. It's worthwhile to read the Quick Start guide or the Manual regarding the HFL. It's really very useful.

Actually...instead of saying "dial," just hit the button and say "xxx-xxx-xxxx," This skips one step, though you will still have to confirm it afterwards.

You can do that. You can also just say the voice tag. BUT -- I find that the risk of mis-recognition is much higher if I don't prefix it with the command. In other words, if I just start saying "Mom at work" without first saying "Call", it winds up tripping over it more often than not... because if you think about it, first it's parsing it for commands, then for numbers, then for voice tags. Whereas if you start with the command, it's just parsing your speech for numbers or voice tags.

So, in order to cut down on the frustration level (because "mother loving piece of crap" shouted at full volume into the microphone is not a recognized command....) I've learned to just say the command first.

Depending on your regional accent, your mileage may vary.

I have had several Moto phones with the RL as well as the Cingular 8125. With all the phones, if I initiate a call with the phone I do have to "transfer" the call to the Acura HFL.

I know of no way to voice dial tags from the phone itself without first saving them to the HFL. If I store the number on the Acura HFL it is easy to voice dial that number. If someone knows how to get the Acura system to automatically be the default on calls originated from the phone that would be great to know. Also, I would love to be able to use voice dial to access tags that are already on my phone so I wouldn't have to save them to the Acura HFL. I have found the voice recognition on the Acura HFL to be very accurate, just wish it was more seemless with the phone. I have saved 90% of the numbers I usually call to the HFL, so it is really more of an annoyance than a real issue at this point.

I was going to add this but in my experience (and the poster's below) if I don't preface the number with "Call" or "Dial" the HFL messes up the numbers more easily.

If i'm not mistaken, was there someone on here that had the Moto. Q? I'm asking because they were saying that you could view the signal strength and battery life on the MID; i'm seeing the battery life however, the signal strength doesn't show bars.
