TL navi vs RL navi

Hi,

Just wonder what you think of the RL navi compared to the TL's. I like the touch screen on the TLs but its not on the RLs. I am thinking about getting a RL but the lack of touch screen is holding me back.So pls give me your opinion. Thanks.

I had the same exact dilemna. I owned an 04 TL with Navi and I loved it.

I was very hesitant to move into the RL simply because lack of a touch screen, but now that I am in it, it's the way to go. Sure I miss the touch screen, but there are so many other goodies on the RL compensate over & over for the lack of a touch screen that you will not be disappointed. Believe me...and at these prices, how can you go wrong?

I used to have a 05TL. The Navi was great. It was very easy to use but that screen was always getting dirty.

Now I have an 05 RL, I prefer it. It took a while to get used to the "stick" but it is very easy and the Navi is more advanced. (Being able to speak cities, check Zagat ratings, traffic, etc.) IMHO, the RL Navi is also in a better/safer location.

I agree with ASP, I too had an 05' TL and moved to the RL. It was very easy to get used to the joy stick in the RL. Also you can simply speak the street names into the RL nav - so no need to get the screen dirty with fingerprints.

as for the rl navi, how about for ppl with an accent, can it still pick up words verbally with accuracy?

The jog wheel on the RL in conjuction with the voice prompts make the RL's navi quite easy and intuitive. You don't have to deal with scratches and finger prints on your screen. Oh and the screen seems more robust and the nag screen pause is significantly less that the TL.

After a week of driving and using the navi, you'll never want to go back, but it would be nice if Acura would add a touch screen to the RL - though I would probably never use it.

If I had to guess - no. If it is a heavy/thick accent it probably wil not work.

The salesman who sold me my TSX had a very thick Russian accent, so I asked him if it recognizes his voice commands because he owned a TSX too. He said he never had any problems with the voice recognition.

I tested out the tl navi while i was in the dealer one time and it seems to pick up only half of what i said, so that worries me if i do get a rl and wont able to use it.

I've learned that you have to have experiance with the navi voice commands and learn exactly what to say and how to say it or it doesn't matter what accent you have, the Navi won't always get it right. I don't know how thick your accent is, but perhaps the poor recognition was due to your lack of experiance with the navi commands.

and the nag screen pause is significantly less than the TL.
yep, forgot about that. The TL nag screen stayed up for an eternity.
