Question Tinted headlights on the RL

Would using a lightly darkened tint on headlight protector shields effect the brightness of the HID system? Going to install them and I think the smoked version would look good on a black RL.

Of course, it would just be like window tint. Nice idea, but not really safe.

Yes. Never have understood people who want to sacrifice safety in the name of style...

Does wearing sunglasses cut down on the brightness of the sun?

Thanks for the comment. The question remains...Does a light tint make the HID system less effective and if so, how much?

Asked and answered. The first word in my "comment" said what anybody with a modicum of logical thought already knows...*yes* it simply HAS to make a difference. How much can only be measured with specialized equipment. I doubt you will get an answer to the "how much" question because a) there would have to be testing done with the particular brand/shade of tint you actually want to use, and b) nobody would want to bother testing a foregone conclusion, and c) it's clear that this is something you want to do to make your car LOOK cooler and the answer you really want from us is, "no...do it...it'll look kewl!"

I have followed a few cars with tinted tail lights that made them somewhat difficult to see especially in rain. I didn't even think it looked good, to each his own I guess.

As others have said it will definitely affect the ability of the headlights to let you see at night. I would leave the lighting system alone and look for some other way to make your car look cooler.

I too have seen cars with tinted headlights and tinted tail-lights and have often thought that wouldn't it be great to have the opportunity to ask the owner as to what he was thinking when he screwed up his ability to see and be seen. Well, we have found one such owner.

Frankly, it wouldn't look good, anyway. It would look ghetto and stupid, not clean and "bad". Blacked-out headlights are what, 1988?

i agree, blacked out headlights are not that good looking. tinted tails can look good if done right... modding cars is a delicate balance between doing *just* enough to enhance the car, without overdoing it and making it look cheap and tacky.

the RL is an upscale luxury car. lowering, upsized wheels, tasteful body kits, and tint is about as far as I'd take this car. the aspec body kit and mugen kit do make the car look more sporty, but even those kits are too much for some people..... you can get away with stuff on a Civic Type R that you can NOT pull off on an RL...

imagine how the RL would look with a high style wing like you find on so many ricers.... that one mod would ruin the whole car. tinted headlights would be ..to me...one of those things.

play around with it on photoshop - different degrees of tint...but I would avoid it. people do clear tint / clearbra applicatios to protect the lenses...but actually making it dark, or yellow, or blue would just look weird.

Ok well I just got mine (used 2005) and the taillights are tinted. What can I use that will eat paint and not plastic. Cop tried telling me nailpolish remover but I don't know about that. I imagine anything that basic or acidic would eat the surface of the plastic and make the whole thing foggy which he would probably write me another ticket for. I am not saying its cool to tint lights but they really are not tinted much and with the LEDs still brighter than most other cars, but anyway I am just rambling now cause I am bitter about car costing me $300 in first week.
