Subwoofer working?

not sure if my sub is putting out. Had it replaced under warranty a little over a year ago. Anyone know a sure fire method of determining if it is working? I have gone into the sound, subwoofer menu and can't seem to hear any change as I adjust the "volume" of the sub.

Thanks!

Reason I would like sub in addition to music is that I read that it sends out low frequency signals to act as road noise cancelling device.

Are you turning up the bass and the subwoofer options?

The easiest and sure fire way to check it is to open the trunk and look at it/listen to it. Or turn the fader to the front and check the deck lid for sound

On a side note, you probably wont get the range out of our free air subs to cancel road noise and if the RL isn't quiet enough for you then you might be in trouble.

^I think he means how the sub is configured by the designers for the ANC system.

+1 on fader. There is also diagnostic modes that can be accessed by holding "1" & "6" and then hitting the correct number after that, but I don't know if that will help here.

I guess I missed his part about the road noise.

OP, the ANC for the 05-08 models is designed to negate engine and exhaust noise. I believe the 09 & 10 models have a more advanced system, but it wasn't until 11 that they implemented a device in the wheel wells (I believe) to actually kill some road noise.

I actually think the harmonic sound deadeners or whatever they are called are in the rims or the hubs. IDK tho LOL

The only way to kill road noise it to turn the radio up, add sound deadening, or buy better tires.

The RL is a quiet car, so if you aren't happy with what you have its time to spend money.

I was thinking the same thing about the rims at first, but then I thought about how changing to aftermarket would suck. Having them in the bore/hub would make sense though.

EDIT: It is the wheel.

The new wheels appeared to be conventional alloy wheels modified to incorporate an internal noise reduction device. A diagram showed an elastomer-type ring with multiple hollow chambers surrounding the center line of the wheel circumference. This resonator was designed to absorb the resonances generated by rough road surfaces such as highway seams.

That sucks because as you stated, if you change rims, your ride will get noisier I guess whats 1.3 dB though
