Speech recognition problem on RL

I have problem using voice dialing with my 06 RL ever since I got the car. It cannot recognize my 4 and always gives me back a 0 instead. I have contacted Acura and it seemed that I am the only problem out there and they have not received enough complaints for them to do anything about it. I even enlisted a friend of mine who is a computer programmer and he pointed out the problem in the programming. He suggested to use 'Key' word to start the number recognition portion and instruct the computer to return only numbers when it receive inputs that resemble the 0-9 numbers. I have talked to Customer Relation Manager and even he said it makes sense, but still I was told Acura is not going to do anything about it. We as owners of RL should somehow voice our flustration on using an Acura product that Acura advertised to be a great feature but did not work 90% of the time and refuse to recognize that it is a major problem with the feature that they are selling and refuse to do anything about it. I am sure it is not my problem alone. Could someone ssuggest how to group all RL owners together and voice our flustration to Acura so that they can reprogram the software and issue an update to all RL owners and everyone will be able to use the great feature of the car that it intended to be used for. Beginning July 1st in California, it will be illigal to use your mobile phone while driving unless it is handfree. If Acura can correct this problem for all Acura owners it will be a big help to automobile safty. Please post your suggestion or email me directly. thanks

Welcome to AZ!
There are spotty issues with the voice recognition but I haven't had any trouble with mine.
If others out there have had the same issue, speak up!

If you do not have any problem with yours, can you let me know what year model you have? Acura replaced the module once for me and it is still not solving the problem and that is why I engaged with a programmer. I also have had more than 10 different ethenic group of people tried the system, and the system failed more than 90% of time. Acura seemed to have known the problem exist but since not too many people complaint about it and they do not want to do anything about it until the next generation comes out which may have corrected the problem. I have seen four postings on the same issue in 2006. Are those owner's problem solved? Please speak up.

I have an 05 and i would say the opposite is true. My commands are recognized 90% of the time when I use the RIGHT command at the right time. I agree with Bob... just try to speak up and more clearly.
I can see where an accent might make that more complicated, but it shouldn't be failing you 90% of the time...

I find that if I do not use the CORRECT command, I get lots of missed actions. The car may understand 600 command sequences, but if you get it going down the wrong logic branch, you may be in climate control when you want change your destination.
I don't know how many times I have shut off my air conditioner or audio with the wrong command set.
I even turned off my traffic one day by shutting off all the icons after I mistakenly commanded them all on, and went through a couple of sessions with XM resetting the XM receiver, and it took me a couple of days to realize the traffic icons were off.

My problem is centered on recognizing the numbers when using the voice dialing the telepone number features while driving or even the car is stationary. The command ask what name and number you want to call? One has to say call-that certain number. I always have problem with the number 4, every other number the computer recognize them with no problem. Do you all use this voice dialing feature? Thanks

I use number dialing quite a bit with HFL. Have not had any problems. I'll try some "4s" tonight just as a test.

Number recognition is very solid, and it has no problem when you intersperse "zero" with "oh"

Chas2 - my experience as well

I tested "4s" and "0s" last night.
Tried 404-444-0404 with HFL, worked perfect

Voice recognition
I have an 05 RL and was always suprised when everyone said they had no problems with the voice recognition because I have always had difficulty, my wife and son frequently laugh at the responses I get from the car, If I do not say zero the phone numbers I am trying to call are always wrong.
I wonder if this issue may change with different versions of the navigaion disk, I still have the original?

my navi is the original, but the HFL voice recognition is not related to the Navi
my experience is that the HFL is more reliable than the other commands (HVAC, XM, NAVI, etc), but that is probably because there are less commands and the system knows when it expects number input versus something else.
I do not really use many of the non-HFL voice commands other than to show it off to someone as in "Find Nearest French Restaurant" which works every time

Just like to find out more! How do you pronounce your 4? I have tried different tone, try saying it as 'four' 'for' or even 'or', the response from the computer returns with '0' 90% of the time. I shall try to use zero instead of 'O' when mixing with the telepohne number to see if it helps. Finally, someone do felt my frustration. Thanks

pretty standard 4 pronounciation, just "four". I don't have an accent and always say zero for 0.
