Solo DVD Audio software question

Question: I just got the software...what is the max amount of songs I can put on one disc? I thought I made 5 different groups full of songs but when I went to play it I only had 14, where did I go wrong?

Also if I use a dual layer does that mean I can do the double amount?

Hi
In my experience max number of DVD-A songs I was able to put on 1 layer DVD was 22 (totally depends on songs length and quality).
I've not tried with DL (double layer) DVD's, but you should be able to double amount of information on DL disk (but I'm not sure if it will be readable by Acura though).

If burned to a DVD-A, would it sound any better vs Ipod considering the source?

I'm really disappointed I was hoping the disc would have the same capacity as my 4 gig mp3 player

With respect to quality DVD-A is way better than MP3.

MP3 format is highly compressed lossy compressed audio (reduced amount of data required to represent audio). Not high fidelity audio content.
Straight from WIKI: "DVD-Audio (commonly abbreviated as DVD-A) is a digital format for delivering very high-fidelity audio content on a DVD" (uncompressed).

Here it is MP3 vs DVD-A is quantity vs. quality.
P.S. If you'd burn CD Audio max songs on average close to 20-25 as well (sound tracks) vs. MP3 CD disk - I was able to fit 200+ songs on regular CD. Same definition here quantity vs. quality.
P.S.S. DVD Audio Solo cannot make audio recording sound better than source (even while converting from Stereo to Surround). If you'd start from Surround Source in the first place result would be different.

DVD-A is of higher grade vs MP3 but what source are you using to burn 5.1 audio onto the DVD-A that will take advantage of it's better audio capabilities?

well, I love music more then most...but I'm not going to lie, I could really careless between having audio DVD quality. I would much rather have thousands of 192 bit rate songs on the disc than 14 DVD quality songs

I'd recommend at least to start from CD Audio - you could rip it to WAV w/o quality loss...

In this case I'd recommend to use - MP3 CD or Ipod (I use AUX for it). There is nothing wrong with it.

For me I've made choice long time ago - I've chosen quality vs. quantity, even though I do have CD MP3 in the car as well as AUX Ipod connection for some of the sources I couldn't find in higher quality (see CD Audio and DVD-A format)

I'm not familiar with Solo, but with Discwelder I can burn 99 songs to a single-layer CD, all in the same group, at 2-channel full CD quality.

Solo Does DVD Audio format on DVD 5.1 surround... (you could take mp3, wav 2ch or 5 wav surround as your source)... (Surround sound takes a lot of space on disc)
Discwelder - interesting 99 songs in CD quality, so what would be your format to input to start from ?.
Also, according to the website: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/discWelder
seems like license would range from $500-$2500 which is quite high for consumer software suite I'd say.

I have Discwelder Bronze -- I don't know if it's still on the market, but I paid $99 when I bought it back in '04 for my TL. You rip CDs to WAV (full quality 44.1 kHz 2-ch) and burn them direct to DVD-A. The DVD will actually hold more, but I think there is a 99 song per group limitation on the DVD-A format, and I don't like to fool around with multiple groups.

Found it for $99 as well: http://www.minnetonkaaudio.com/produ...cwelder01.html

Based on your comments it is not Solo DVD-A size limitation but rather Adobinizer outputsize limit (wav to 5 split conversion)...

Tyzing- When you burn MP3 CD's, you can also do pseudo playlists or even Albums depending on how you burn the disc. Assuming each song is 5 megabytes (140kbps variable bit) you can probably get 130 songs on each disc. You can divide this up by artist name, and then by Album name.

Alternatively, you can burn DVD-A's with WAV files or lossless sound and put 99 per disc. I never got CD-TEXT to work on those, though.

Thank you so much! That would be huge! How can I create a Playlist?

B/c what I've gathered right now is that different groups are not what you want to do b/c switching is to hard so rather then having 99 songs by different artists I'd like to use playlists if I can figure out how to

OK, lets start with what program do you use for music management? Do you use iTunes, WinAMP, or some other program? Are you on Windows, Linux, or MacOSX?

Go into iTunes preferences by hitting control-comma. (Or Edit-->Preferences) Select Advanced Options, then Burning. Now you can change your burn type to "MP3 Data Disc" or "Data Disc". (This is assuming iTunes 7, not 8- its a little different in 8)

Now here's the cool part: make a new playlist, but sort it by artist. Now when you burn a disc you will have folders which you can browse in your RL.

For example:

Screen One:
-----------------------
AC/DC
Audioslave
Beatles
Chris Isaak
-----------------

Screen Two, you can select the Album name

Screen three, you can choose song name

This is the best way to make MP3 discs, but you can also do "pseudo playlists" by numebr the songs like this

01 Back in Black.mp3
02 A Day in the Life.mp3
03 Want You.mp3

etc....

Yes, thats right. Each playlist in iTunes is a CD (mp3 or normal) so you want a superplaylist of 650 megs or so.

However, in that playlist, you can have folders and sublists.

If I could figure out how to screenshot the Acura I could show you what I mean.

You don't. Just sort by artist name, and it will automatically put them into folder by artist name, then album.

haha ok

So what your saying is I make one "mega playlist" with a ton of other playlists....burn that onto a DVD and my car will show the folders of the artists name?

Sounds to go to be true!!!
