Replacing NAV Screen?
Just curious for those that have added video capability with setups like navtool, etc....is it possible to replace the factory NAV display screen with something capable of higher resolution? Or would there be issues like if it's actually a one-piece deal with other electronic guts in the dash or using some weird proprietary connections to the graphics output, etc....

you are going to have to convert the output in the dash to the input of what ever screen you choose.
Then I am not sure that the resolution output on the nav itself will be any better even with a high end screen.
Is it going to be a plug and play type thing? I'd say no way.

Just curious, I can't imagine the factory display really does justice to the types of portable video sources that are available today. Not really thinking about the quality of the nav graphics since "garbage in = garbage out" but more for secondary sources through something like navtool...but then I suppose if navtool only does composite (RCA jack) video anyway, a higher res screen is overkill there too so maybe I just nuked my own question LOL

So lets start off by saying that you have to baseline your desire... if the question is "can it be done?", then the answer is yes. after saying that the next step is, you have to ask yourself what its worth.
When people walk into the shop and say "I want to go fast" we never say "How fast?" instead we say "Fast costs money, how much do you have to spend?"
The same thing applies here, sure you can make the resolution in your car rival any big screen TV. But how much is it worth to you.
I shot this video a few minutes ago, this is my USA Spec/Nav tool set up, with an iPod 3 source, and a iPhone shooting the vid.
This is plenty clear IMO

Your video is private. But, I do agree.
To get a 1080i/p picture, you have to go larger than 36" or something like that. Everything below, will be 720p at most. More than likely, the best resolution you will get on your 7" screen is 480p, so like Heavy asked, is it worth X hundred/thousand dollars to get a little bit better video in a car? How often will you watch videos in your car anyway?

And the iPod randomly goes to the next song 15 seconds in?
Seriously though, I like both songs. I just like Chicken Fried better. Being a gringo raised in ranching country, I will blast rock or country with the windows down and no shame, but I hide behind my tint when I start thumpin'.
