Replace '06 RL Stereo with '09 or Later RL Stereo
I have a 2006 RL since new. I really like the car, but have been frustrated that there's no clear path to upgrade the audio interface.
I want to be able to stream music through the existing sound system via Blutooth or an Aux jack. An Aux jack was standard in the RL starting in '07 and Bluetooth streaming starting in '09 (I think).
I checked with the local parts department to see if I can simply plug in an '09 or later stereo system. It seems the screen resolution is unchanged but the wiring harness has a different part number. The parts guy didn't know if the connections were the same. Going this route is attractive as it would preserve the DVD-A capability.
Has anyone tried this?
An alternative would be a Can Bus module that would provide an Android Auto interface and display on the OEM screen. But I think that's wishful thinking :-)
Thanks in advance,
Jim

JimMcGee i recently swapped my stereo in my 06 with one from a 2010, and everything is plug n play. The only issue i had was the little screen that display the clock is a little choppy. As far as the aux music play, the 2010 unit has an additional port on the back which requires another part which i cant find. There are several units on Amazon/Ebay, ect that will work but i wanted to keep it OEM.. Before i did this swap i purchased the USA SPEC BT45-ACU and it worked great for about 2 months the took a shit. The company refused to replace it so i wouldnt recommend them at ALL!!!! Im ordering a aux unit soon, So i will give an update later...

You can replace your 05 radio with an 09 radio without any change but you have to replace the HVAC Display too, because the arrangement of the Symbols of the LCD has changed. I have done this to attach a USB Unit from a Civic and it works pretty well. But it has one minus point: The Display shows only "AUX". No Track info.
I Can't say anything about BT Streaming because i own an European model with a faulty and removed HFL (EU Models have only the basic Hands free function, no further features available)
Maybe it helps a bit
