Odd NaviDisc issue
Odd NaviDisc issue
Using newest 2013 White v 4B1. Have used new discs for last several years with no issues. Over the last month, the system shuts down and goes into "Disc Read Error", but only when I am in NY, NJ, PA area, where we drive to frequently. But in MA (where we are based) or CT, there are no issues. This happens whether we have the Nav screen on or off, and happens whether we have destinations entered or not. I'll clean the disc off with a microfiber cloth, blow dust out of the player, but it only seems to happen in certain areas, and not others.
As you can probably guess, the dealer doesn't see an issue, and can't duplicate the problem........sigh......

This is a known issue, apparently. If you are not under warranty, you may wish to get an estimate, and then see how much it might cost to do it yourself, that is remove it, send it to Alpine and have it repaired for a flat fee.
Just a thought.
I have bad news for you. Same thing happened to me and it turns out the disk is scratched, by the navi system. The whole unit had to be pulled, and was out of the car for over 4 weeks before it came back, may have even been 6 weeks. Fortunately, my 2006 was under extended warranty.

FWIW, mine started shuitting off in PA, then got worse and worse and after a few weeks, was shutting down after less than 10 minutes in VA. The thought was in certain geographical areas is where the scratch was.
Alpine has a fixed rate for repair, I think it was less than $200. Regardless, try another disk and if it does fine you are golden, but I suspect it will scratch that.
When the navi was returned and reinstalled, the disk would still freeze within minutes...they said, oh, you have to get a new disk. I pushed back and they ordered me a new disk, and everything has been fine for 8 months.
