Navigation update.

Currently running a 4.12 white disc in the car. I just got the 4.92 white disc for the car.

I know that I will need to update the firmware of the navigation after doing some research on the forums. Tried to acquire the 1.29 update disc and have no luck in getting it. I know that a forum member have a dropbox link to the update disc, but would like to update my maps before new years.

Is there anyone here on the forum that have the firmware update disc? I am willing to buy the update disc and will send payment via paypal.

Let me know!

Ivan, your dealer can do it for free in most cases, or at most $30.

Nearest Acura dealership for me is about an hour. I was hoping to get a dropbox link from Ivan since he have it up there in the clouds. I might have to make an appointment to acura.

Finally got the update from Ivan. Everything worked fine up until my burned DVD copy of the 4.92 maps started to get DVD read error messages.

I burned the copy with the slowest speed possible (2.4x) and still no good.

Light at the end of tunnel is diminishing again.

There some kind of copy protection on the DVD and you can't make a copy, you need to use the original.

Well I got a copy of the 4.A2 version (2012) that I just made and it worked!

Just had to insert two bin files and burn it into a image and the navigation system updated it self and worked like a charm. After a couple days of research I now have a updated navigation working for my car.

PM me for more info.

Glad you got yours working! I just got my 05 a few days ago and am looking to update the Navi as well. Since I'm new I can't send PMs yet - wondering if you could PM me the link to the dropbox update file. Thanks!

I'm really confused, from the way the forum is structured it appears that the new Navi or 2nd Gen starts in 2005 but isnt it 2006?

I have a 2005 RL older body type which I would think means I dont have the same Navi as the 2006+ am I wrong?

I also cant seem to find the history of disc's to know what I can upgrade to and what I cant. I think I'm on 4.69 or something like that...if that doesnt sound right I'll check again.

are you trying to convince us that our '05's are really '06's?

Dont spread your confusion, that shit is contagious.

If your car is the old body style you have an 04 or older...

I know mine is a 2nd Gen...year before was the true old body style...but wasnt it updated again to 3rd gen well before 2012 like the forum suggests?

Either way, that doesnt really matter...I just need to know what discs I can use.

What the hell...

Look at your VIN (since you conveniently blurred it even though it has no personal information). Does it say "KB1" or "KA9" anywhere in it? KB1 is the chassis code for the 2G RL which started production in 2004 and went on sale later that year as a 2005 model. The Nav system from 2005-2012 is unchanged. KB2 is the chassis code for the 2009-2012 RL, but it was only a mid-model change (MMC) and did not contistute a new generation.

Thanks for the response and sorry for the confusion...am I being dense here? Quite possible, but hopefully I'm not the only one that got confused by this

Anyways I looked at my VIN and it had KB1 in it...

No worries. Your density likely depends on what you ate/drank for lunch.

I assume all of your confusion came from the change to the RL in 2006 when the Tech model was introduced and the base model received a "compass" instead of standard navigation. This was a cost reduction move and allowed sales access to HI and AK which are out of the range of the satellites.

Makes sense now and you are correct on where my confusion came from!

So, with all that said...which discs am I able to use? The most recent "2013 White DVD Map Update for 2005 RL and MDX v4.B1 MapCare" should work fine? (as long as I've upgraded to that .63 or whatever that one is you have to use first from Ivan)

Just want to make sure I'm on the right track.

There was only ever one firmware update, 1.29.00 that happened with the 4.31C disc. If you can run a version later than 4.31C, you are already updated and can run whatever you please. (Not sure about reverse compatibility, though.)

Hi all. Just bought an 05 RL and new to the thread. Wondering if upgrading to the new NAV is worth the cost?

If you are still running the original disks then yes. Otherwise I'd wait at least 3 years between updates... not much changes from year-to-year concerning maps.

May or may not be worth it. I updated from an '06 to '12 disc. Don't expect a huge change. What I noticed was updated POI's (which is what I expected it to cover anyways). I didn't notice much else. I think it really depends on how often you like to call up the POI's like restaurants and such.
