navigation static

I have a three week old 06 RL which I love. I have made a 2000 mile road trip and this is a great road car. One issue--sometimes when I start the car there is substantial static from the center dash navigation speaker. Sometimes this goes on for 30-60 seconds. Nothing I do makes a difference. Radio on, off, etc. I haven't had a chance to get back to the dealer, but by phone they report no similar experience. Can anyone help?

This is an issue I don't remember seeing here before. I certainly haven't had this happen with my RL.

Do you have a cell phone with you when this static occurs? Some cell phone antennas are stronger and produce noticeable "static" when it's near a speaker.

Welcome to Acurazine!

This is not a previously known problem. I also don't have this issue on my 2006 RL.

I haven't heard of this problem either. However as schen72 said cell phones can create a static sound but that is usually when they are receiving a call or dialing a call.

cell phone as source of 'static'

I have a motorola V551. It can create static when it's near a speaker at home or in car when it's on: it doesn't have to be sending/receiving call. I think the same thing happens with the razor (both on cingular network).

I appreciate the help, altho it appears my problem is unique in this group. The static continues, and occurs when I start the car. I have an appointment with the dealer on Monday, and will report results. I suspect a new nav unit will be required.

I thought you all might like to know the resolution of my problem. I had loud static from the center dash speaker when the car was started. The dealer was helpful as usual, tried a couple of fixes, and ended up replacing the radio amplifier, which is mounted in the trunk. Somehow it was sending a signal to the center speaker as it came on. New amp, no more problem. Thanks for your interest--I hope this helps someone else in the future. Still love the car!!
