MP3's from iTunes- won't work-help help
Does anyone have experience getting their MP3's to play in the RL? I purchased a bunch of music MP3's from iTunes and tried burning it to cd. Default settings convert the music to CD-A format which only allows about 20 songs on a CD. I want to use the MP3 layout but the iTunes interface says I can't burn MP3's to CD. Then I burned using the data format and copied then pasted/burned to cd- the RL doesn't read the file structure and ejects the disk within seconds of putting it in.
Has anyone else gotten the RL to play MP3's? If so, how did you create your CD?
Thanks

In your situation - you would have to burn the songs to the CD then rip them onto the computer (tucows.com or download.com you can find something for ripping cd to mp3s).
Then in order to burn an mp3 cd you need to simply burn the mp3 files into a blank cd - using a data format, NOT a music or specific MP3 format.

Did you buy the songs from the iTunes Music Store? If so, that's your first problem. Songs bought from the store are NOT in the MP3 format. Instead, they are in the AAC format with DRM copy protection technology added. You would have to burn a "traditional" CD from those songs and then re-rip them onto your computer's hard drive as MP3's. After that, you can burn the songs as MP3's, albeit at a slightly lower sound quality than their original AAC format.

One more thing, please make sure you have set iTunes to import your songs as MP3's, if you intend to use iTunes.

Exactly.
Files from iTunes are in a m4p format that is not rcognized by an mp3 player. The only way around it that I know of is to go to a standard cd audio burn and then a rip to mp3

Or you can just make a CD and then import the CD using iTunes. Just make sure iTunes is set to import as an MP3.

As far as I know m4p is a protected format. That means you may need to create a regular CD audio file from mp4 which iTunes will do. Then you can take that CD and rip it to mp3 which iTunes will also do. That is how I do it.

The m4p (AAC) isn't an inherently protected format or codec, but songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store have Digital Rights Management copy protection added. Fortunately, the DRM is lenient enough to allow you to make a CD and then import it in iTunes without additional software.
