Message Screen Delay - Can't clear messages

Hey everybody.

My wife took the RL out and usually leaves her bags on the front seat. The airbag turns off and leaves a message in the message center on the info screen menu. I saw the little envelope on the NAV and wanted to clear the message.

I went to clear the messages but the screen takes like 2minutes to load and when loaded it doesn't allow me to clear the messages. It kicks me out of the Info screen. Everything else works fine but that.

Should I reload the DVD? Any thoughts. Thanks in advance

I don't think the DVD has anything to do with the messages...I had no trouble deleting the "Passenger Seatbelt Off" message a couple of days ago. Loaded immediately. May be time to check with the dealer.

Try pressing the "Map", "Menu", and "Cancel" buttons simultaneously. That brings up the Nav diagnostic screen. There is an option in there somewhere to clear the diagnostic and other messages. You can also reload the Nav software which takes several minutes but might be worth trying before going into the dealer.

Thanks dwboston. I will do that since it might save me a trip to the dealer. I'll provide an update if it works...Solutions are always good to post.

Quick update. Wasn't able to locate anything in the diagnostic screen to clear the messages. I popped the DVD out and popped it back in. The DVD didn't reload any software.

After that, I was able to go into the Messages screen and delete the message. No delay issues either. I guess that did the trick. Strange but it worked.

Thanks everybody.

On a side note: I used Meguires Scratch X on some light scratches on my Nighthawk Black RL. The stuff worked great...worth the $9...

There is an option within the NAV diagnostic screens to completely reload the software (without removing the DVD). Glad you were able to clear the messages out.

Sticky message screen-All Wheel Drive error message

I first noticed my message screen hanging a few weeks ago. I don't check messages unless I get an email symbol in the NAV, but I now have two messages in mine...AFS and one for my all wheel drive not working (:75).

Regarding these two error messages, the AFS light will come on very infrequently, about 3 times since June, '05, when I'm driving very slowly in my 1/2 mile drive...just coasting along...I'm not too concerned about that one. When the light comes on, I restart the car as instructed, and everything works normally thereafter.

But as for the AWD, I've never gotten any kind of indication that the all wheel drive is not working. No email symbol and no warning light in the dash. I think the system is working...the SHAWD display shows appropriate power to the wheels according to driving input.

I may not be looking in the right place, but as far as I know, I don't have an option to delete these two messages.

I may have caused the AWD message...there's been some discussion here regarding the effectiveness of Acura's AWD at slow speeds. I have a spot in the driveway that washes out and there's a dip...it's on a hillside...I usually just gently glide through it, but decided one day (about the date of that error message) to stop halfway through that dip while going up the hill and then start very slowly...the left front wheel spun out...I was very gentle and didn't allow but a couple of seconds of spin before I decided that wasn't the response I expected...and rolled backwards down the hill and then just powered on through normally. However, I didn't get any error indications from the car's systems whatsoever.

BTW, with the all wheel drive error message, the car is supposed to be able to get more information by connecting to the Acura server...and it will not connect. I've got a Razr which I successfully linked up to the server months and months ago. I've never had an opportunity to try it out until now. It doesn't work. Going back into the setup for that, I do get an OK confirmation. However, the car will not connect successfully to the server regarding the all wheel drive error message. My service is Cingular and I've matched the car strings to the phone.

I get the same problem -- put the cat with the cat carrier on the front seat, and got the "Pass Airbag Off" message, which I had major trouble clearing.

My Honda dealer thought they'd cleared out the AWD error message yesterday...they found something about a stuck sensor...they also found the AWD:75 message that I'm seeing in my screen.

They were very busy and worked me in. We didn't have time to consider fixing anything...all I wanted was the messages in my screen cleared out. So, I didn't return with the car when I discovered that the messages available to me were still in the system. I'd already driven 300 miles and wanted to get home.

Regarding the HIP menu, I can find a "data reset" function, and did use that as instructed by a dealer when I first purchased the car in 2005. We wanted to clear out the message that I'd left my remote in the car when getting out and shutting the door. ..that was a message later fixed by Acura.

However, I don't know if using that option will clear out my two "diagnostic" messages for the AFS and AWD. Anyone know?

I'll continue to monitor the stuck sensor when into a service facility...now I'm wondering how long the sensor may have been stuck...

Found the delete message menu

I found the menu to delete the diagnostic messages...in the XMHip section. However, the computer is seriously hanging when I go to that menu option. So far, I've only been able to delete the AWD message.

Well, yesterday evening after washing the car, I checked the message menu and the AWD message had returned...I believe it's the same message because it had the same date from March, 2007.

However, amazingly, the computer wasn't hanging, so I immediately went into the XMHip menu and normally deleted the AWD and AFS messages. After deleting the messages, I parked the car, so won't know for another day or so when I drive the car again whether the deletion is permanent. No doubt I've got to have the system looked at. I googled and found a post over at Edmunds regarding these two messages from a couple of years ago, so now I'm wondering if there is a known issue about the computer sticking and in addition, getting the AWD error message. I've looked around on the internet a bit but have not stumbled on anything. I reckon I could check the stickys here at Acurazine!

If I can't resolve the issue on my own, I've got to have somebody take a look at this. Unfortunately, I don't have an Acura dealer I'm comfortable with.

In the meantime, can someone enlighten me regarding getting into the menu for "reloading software?" So far, I've stayed out of the "data reset" menu since I don't fully know the implications of doing that. If that reloads the software, I'm ready to do it.

BTW, I backtracked my travels to the date of the AWD error message in March...I drove about 350 miles that day, mostly on an interstate at "not legal speeds"...it was cold and raining. I still don't recall seeing any error message on that day.

I also have 2 messages that were there before I bought the car (airbag, etc). I go in to delete them and can't do it. I have to hit the delete button repeatedly and finally the confirmation screen appears. I hit yes, and it freezes for about 15 seconds then goes away, but the messages are still there. So I tried the map-guide/cancel/menu deal to get to the diagnostic menu. I go to xm hip. I then have 2 options one of which is XM (HIP) ECU. I click on it, but it doesn't do anything. So I can't get to the data reset part. Any suggestions?

I also have this problem. 2 messages from 2006 about airbags being off and such and they will not delete.

I had the same issue where going into Diagnostic menu would not let me delete DRL running lights message... navi was acting sluggish, taking longer to show menu, open message options etc.
Ejecting and inserting back DVD for NAVI did the trick...

PS Because it is embarrassing I should not list what other troubleshooting steps I performed and how much time I wasted without realizing to start with popping out NAVI DVD and insert it back.
Considering message was caused by me trying to exchange DRL LED bulbs I tried plug and play so many times thinking it was one of the bulbs perhaps, etc. - not realizing it was only NAVI showing me the message, not my MID Screen...
