Ipod integration
Press Release
Here's a press release I found concerning Ipod integration:
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Acura today unveiled the Acura
Music Link iPod(R) adaptor, which allows seamless integration between iPod and
Acura audio systems. The new accessory developed by Acura enables drivers to
listen to their iPod in digital sound directly through the audio system in the
2006 Acura RL, TL and TSX sedans and MDX SUV. Acura Music Link allows drivers
to select their music by artist, album, genre and play list through the
standard controls on the audio system head unit. Additionally, the Acura
Music Link adaptor will be the first to include text-to-speech capabilities or
VoiceID, when searching through the iPod music library with the audio system
controls.
"We are very excited to partner with Apple and offer the Music Link
accessory to our Acura customers," said Stony Furutani, manager of Acura
accessory marketing. "Acura vehicles are equipped with the latest audio
technology and we are pleased to expand the audio experience to iPod users."
"We're thrilled to team up with Acura, to provide drivers with a seamless
iPod experience," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of iPod product
marketing. "Car companies are embracing the iPod, and over 30% of the cars
sold in the US in 2006 will offer iPod integration."
The Acura Music Link adaptor provides outstanding sound quality while
charging the iPod battery at the same time by a cable conveniently located in
the glove compartment. The adaptor will be available starting in mid-December
exclusively for purchase and installation at Acura dealers. Suggested retail
pricing for the Acura Music Link will be approximately $250 plus dealer
installation charge. Acura Music Link is backed by a full Acura factory
warranty. Consumers should check with Acura dealers for specific
restrictions.
iPod's are available at in the U.S. through the Apple Store(R) at

Here is my logic:
The important thing is that the new apple hookup is going to be voice activated through Acura's voice recognition system. The RL and TL both have voice recognition no matter what because even if you have a non-nav TL you still have HFL, and the RL you have no choice. However the 04-05 TSX it is possible to not have voice recognition due to non-nav/no HFL. So the voice activation cannot work on a non-nav 04-05 TSX. The 06 TSX is getting HFL so now it will have voice recognition capabilities even without navi. It stands to reason that the Acura/Apple hookup will work with the 04-05 RL and TL and with the 06 TSX only.
Which sucks for me

Gibson - the non-nav TL owners also would not be able to use the voice recognition system even though they have HFL. The HFL is seperate from the radio all together except in that it will mute the radio. You MUST have nav on the TL in order to use the voice recognition for the other features besides the HFL because all the voice commands and programming are found and stored on the DVD for the navi.

search and you shall find your answer (kinda) But - I will just answer - nobody knows if it will work with the 05' or not. The kit for the 06' will be released in december.
I checked on the part numbers for the radio head unit and the navi units (navi for the camera) both the head unit and navi drive have different part numbers for the 06'. I imagine this means the ipod will not work either.

Ok here's what I did with my 04 Accord with Navi (and what has to be done in the TL): you can use the Denison IceLink Plus ($100 @ BestBuy) to wire you iPod to you car. On my Accord the factory steering wheel controls worked, and the iPod was charged. The downside was that since the headunit has no Aux, I had to unplug the XM input and use that for my iPod. So when playing my iPod I have to be an XM mode.
Now, the RL's headunit (like the Accord's) is an Alpine unit. Alpine makes an iPod "brain" the KCA-420i which is meant to plug into an Alpine h/u (and others) and allows for display of songs and the such. Additionally, Denison offers something that will work with Aplines. I guess the first question is: does the 05 RL have an AUX input, does the 06? There should be a way to get some sort of device in there that will allow more then one input.
All this should be very doable. I am curious as to whether the 06 h/u has an aux input, or if the ipod connector goes into the XM port and then has a provision to accept the XM harness. If it has the latter, the h/u would have to be able to know how to seperate between the ipod and XM -- since they will be on the same port.

I have an Eclipse headunit in my Z06 -- and out of the box it has provisions for a rear cam, and the ability to jump between multiple inputs. I need to start reading up on the RL's head unit, are there any good primers out there?
