the NonNav and Nav DVD drives look the same on the outside but have different part numbers. There may be a away to hack the software and get the NonNav model to work but I'm unaware of any way to do this. There is a PCMCIA slot at the front of the changer and possibly thats how it would be done.

I have tried to find out information from Acura in regard to upgrading my base RL with compass system to a navigation without any success. They flat out say it can not be done. I was very happy to come across discussion for I felt that there should be some way to convert the system. Has anyone had any success in converting a 2009? My Acura has the Acura-link system do I still need to make any changes XM module to get the Nav-Street to work?

Nav-Street? What is that? Are you talking about traffic?

From this thread it is apparent that to have a navigation with maps and directions, you will only need to swap the DVD player and buy the nav disk. It sounds to me like you have traffic capabilities b/c you have the Acura-Link XM module. However, you have to pay the XM membership to get it.

Success...I bought an 06 nav unit from Ebay and swapped it out with the CD player in the trunk on my 08 RL and everything works fine, it came with an older DVD version.

After making the switch has anyone had any problems updating the 4.56 version?

Hi Gang:

I'm having trouble finding _affordable_ used navi DVD drives for my '07 RL. Does anyone know if they are compatible with MDX or TL units?

Thanks!

Not just bumping this thread, but...

I've found several folks selling MDX/TL DVD-NAV units for <$100. How can I find out if they're compatible with the RL units? The cheapest 05-08 unit that I've found is >$400.

Thanks!

That's what the experience here says. Tappatop is relatively active still. Send him a PM.

Hey fellas,
Acura RL 05...

Went into the diagnostic menu (cancel/map/guide/menu) i get gps signal (multiple sats). Im located in puerto rico.

When i turn the swith on i get the initial navigation warning but end up getting compass screen only. I have to change the dvd unit or should i try a new disc. Im on 4.12....

New DVD unit. The disc is fine, except it may not have PR covered. It is worth looking into that you have a PR disc before jumping the gun on a new DVD unit.
