How to Pair Bluetooth w/ 07 RL: "Phone Setup" Not Available

I want to pair my Bluetooth phone with my '07 RL. The owner's manual and handsfreelink.com both state "Press and release the Talk button on the steering wheel and wait for the "beep" before you speak. Say "phone setup". I do this and the car responds with "Setup what?" Entering a voice command of "phone" at this point gets no response. The nav screen displays a variety of setup options to choose from, but phone setup is not one of them. I've tried this with the ignition switch in every functional position and get the same result. I can't find any additional references to phone pairing that explain why phone setup isn't available as documented. Can someone tell me what's happening here and/or how I can otherwise move forward with the pairing process?

Say "system" first (I think that's it), and then say "phone setup".

I will try to help you. You have to go into you phone. I have verizon and went to tools and then into connections. In connections I went to bluetoothand then setup. Then while in the car with ignition on you try to setup phone and car together. The car and phone must reconize each other. Only then can you set it up. I am not sure where you are with this. Hope this helps you

Problem Solved

Thanks for the suggestions. This problem turned out to be due to an RTFM failure on my part, and to incorrect and misleading information in the owner's manual. After a closer reading of the Hands Free Link (HFL) section of the manual, I realized that the "Talk" button specified in the pairing instructions is the HFL Talk button; not the voice command button referenced throughout the rest of the manual. This distinction is not clear in the manual but can be deduced with thorough review of the HFL section. Hence, RTFM -- my mistake. After this ah ha I discovered that the "Phone Setup" command specified in the manual should actually be spoken as "Setup Phone". From here the instructions were reliable and I was able to pair my phones in quick order.

I've noticed the behavior can sometimes be erratic with Androids. It occasionally takes several minutes before the phone is able to pair. I've noted iPhones generally take less time and are quicker to pair with the RL.
