I copied this from the handsfreelink.com website. Instructions are specifically for an '08 with navi. I didn't see what model you have. Good Luck.

go to acura hands free link website and look up specific details on how to do it. You need your model of car.
It works with a 2006 according to the site.

First of all, AcuraLink is a label created by Acura to refer to the car's telematics. This includes, HFL, Navigation System, GPS, Solar Sensing Auto Climate Control, XM Satellite connectivity, Driver Customizable keyless system and Datalink.
I would not claim AcuraLink is useless, as you are dismissing one of the best telematics in the biz.
What the OP is referring to is AcuraLink DataLink of the Bluetooth paired cell phone to be used as a data modem. This allows the car to upload diagnostic system information to Acura's server via XM satellite. It also allows the car to receive information such as appointment reminders, recalls, or urgent info from Acura (perhaps as a response to a diagnostic upload). Only some phone models / carrier configurations work in this capacity, even if the HFL feature is compatible.
DataLink is rarely used, but it DOES work. The reason it is rarely used is for a number of reasons:
1) The car has been trouble free with diagnostics. No need to communicate to Acura Server.
2) Only one recall was issued for the car.
3) Few owners have a cell phone paired, never mind have a data capable phone and have set up this feature.
4) Few people use MyAcura.com (formerly Ownerlink) to make service appointments, which sends notifications to the car via Datalink.
I have used Datalink, and although it has only been a handful of times it does work. By nature of this feature it is a low use feature...that does not make it useless.
For those who do have a data capable phone (not sure...check the HFL website), you can always test the transmission from the car. There is a TEST utility in the NAVI. SETUP> ACURALINK/MESSAGES > CONNECT TO ACURALINK SERVER will ping the server via XM. Note: the car should not be obstructed from the satellite sight-line (generally a view south), such as being garaged or a building. Also, you do NOT need an active XM subscription for this feature to work.
