Talking Funny XM renewal story

We all know about the winback77 method, but I got a call today from XM a week or two before my XM subscription on my RL expires. The lady asked if I would want to renew for $142.00 when it expires.

So I says, well, I didn't know for sure if I'd be renewing, but that I recalled getting a notice on my wife's car awhile back saying they'd renew for $77.00, and if she'd renew me for that I'd go ahead and do it. With hardly a pause, she says "I can do that." So I added NavTraffic and told her to bill me. She said she'd have to add $2 for the billing, so I told her that sucked but go ahead.

So then I says, "I also have an MDX that I think is expiring about the same time. How about just going ahead and renewing it for the $77.00, too?" She says, "Oh, that one will be on the Family Plan, which will be $83.00".

I says, "Here's the deal: the RL was good for $77.00, so give me the MDX for $77.00 and I'll do it." Without missing a beat, she says, "I can do that."

Then I say, include them on one billing and you don't have to charge me the $2.00 billing fee twice, right?" She says, "Okay." Two birds down with one stone.

Boy, I think they're so desperate for renewals that all you have to do is ask and you'll get the $77.00 price.

Good to know - I am about to renew PLUS add a vehicle ('08 TSX when it comes in - after the 3 month trial of course).

Mike-TX,

I'd like the name of that XM person you spoke too cause everytime I call looking for a deal, they push back like there's no tomorrow and have an attitude to boot. They tried to nickel and dime me for my wife's MDX subscription that i let expire....what an outfit !!

When I called to turn off one of the 2 XM's we already had because of getting the RL - they offered to leave it on for free for - I think it was 6 months. I didn't want to, since I was giving the unit to a friend to replace his that was giving him problems at the power connection. But they REALLY tried to keep it active.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I didn't get the lady's name, so I can't help there.

The odd thing is that they called ME before the subscription ended. I was ready to let it expire and not renew for a few weeks, then call them with the "winback77" thing. This gal beat me to the punch, though, so I just played it cool and acted like I probably wouldn't renew. I did ask her if they had any promotions going on, and mentioned the $77 offer we had gotten on the wife's Caddy.

She rolled over real quickly and said she'd do it, so I'd just say to call back and give it another try.

My XM expires in ten days and I haven't heard anything from XM. My current plan is to let it expire and use the winback thing.

Thanks for posting your experience, Mike!

I only wish they had a similar deal for OnStar, which I also plan on renewing.
