Escort 9500ix radar detector hard wire install help on 2006 RL
Hi there.
I have 2006 RL and I have been trying to figure a way to hardwire the Escort 9500ix radar detector.
I had the entire dash apart trying to run one of the wires behind the radio up through the speaker and radio screen on top of the dash.
Anyone have any suggestions. I just could not find a path that the phone plug could go through.
Also, wondered if anyone had a good suggestion where the mute button should mount? If you had pictures...that would be even better. I can send my email address if that helps.
Thanks so much for your help.
Loren

I ran my 9500ix across the head liner towards the driver side, then snaked it down the a-pillar to have it drop down near my feet.
i then used an "add a fuse" and plugged it into fuse #32 located in the kick panel fuse box
popped the a-pillar back into place and voila! hidden cord.

^Right, except you don't have to remove the A-pillar.
OP, you are thinking in the wrong place. I did what Justin explained on both Legends and now my Tundra with my V1. Run the cord up the A-pillar from the fuse box. The wire can slip between the trim and the lining. (A flat head screwdriver can help get through tight spots.) Route it up the pillar and across the front of the head liner to the rear-view mirror.

This is a great idea that one of the moderators did to his new R-spec.
There are a few benefits to placing it higher than lower; it isn't as visible to potential thieves, it isn't visible to nearby drivers, and its line of sight will not be obstructed as easily especially toward the rear with the back seat.

Thanks for the responses
I appreciate your comments. In the direct wire live kit, there are 2 wires. one 4 pin RJ11 that goes from the radar detector to the Mute pod. Then there is another smaller wire that goes from the fuse box to the Mute pod as well.
I still have the issue of where to run the main wire since the pod will be lower on the dash.
Is the power wire by the mirror switched so it turns on when the car is started or is it live all the time?
Thanks.
Loren
