door open sensor not working

My 2007 rl doesn't detect if my drivers door is open. No indication in cluster display, door puddle lights don't turn on with door open, dome light doesn't turn on with door open, etc . From what I can tell in lighting manual, that sensor/switch is in the door lock actuator itself. Anyone ever had this issue, how did they fix it? I played with the other working doors latches trying to fake them close, couldn't seem to fake it/exercise the sensor manually. Anyone know how it works?

Figure I'd check here first before I start ripping the door apart.

Did you look for a simple contact switch (button) covered in rubber? I was pretty sure it's like every other car.

Actually it is in the door latch mechanism. I was able to fake the other doors, I just wasn't pushing the latch all the way before. So yea I'll probably have to take the door apart to see what's broke.
