I am new to this sight. I saw that there is a post back in January about this very same thing. It seams that one of the door handles is shorting out. The fuse for back up system will burn out within 30 seconds of putting in a new one. The car starts but, isn't drivable. Won't go out of park because alarm is going off. Of course, I pulled the fuse for the horn. Only problem is. No Acura dealer in Wyoming. Getting a tow to Colorado might be a little extreem. Honda dealer has refused to work on the car in the past for other issues I have had. So, my question is. Anyone know of a way to get my car moving down the road to get to the dealer? Thanks for any help someone might have.

 

I think there was a post about disabling the door handle, but by the symptoms you've posted you certainly need one replaced.

I'm not sure how mechanically inclined you are, I'm sure you could replace the handle yourself with the service manual.

 

Thanks. I got both door panels off. Found out that the passenger door handle is the problem. Disconnected it. Now the alarm isn't going off. The car will not shift out of park without using the bypass next to the shifter. The SH-AWD system warning is on, along with the traction control. When it rains it poors. Door handle is on order (5days) I'll drive it to the dealer then. Good thing I have another vehicle.

 

Thats great progress, if you have the door panel off does it look like you can swap the handles out?

How old is your battery?

 

It looks like it is just a couple of bolts to removed, bolt the new one in and plug it in. I replaced the battery about 8 months ago. Spared no expense on the battery (Optima). I know the AWS does work. When I drove it yesterday, I brought up the pictorial ASW system. Only the front wheels are being powered. I looked at all the fuses. I'll have to waite till next week when my part comes in. Then, I will get the dealer to look at everything. At least I can drive it. Like you said progress.

 

Yea and if i was you i would be careful with that OPTIMA battery... They suck and the voltage never stays up and that is one thing about the RL is that it takes a lot of power from the batt!! Do a load test and you will see. Everyone i use died after 6-8 months . The best battery is a sealed normal acid battery with that little eye on it. Good luck i hope it was a help!

I almost hate to say it, but I blew my rear end and had the same lights/display... I hope that isnt the case with yours.

When was your last dif fluid change and who did it?

 

You are just a ball of sunshine aren't you? lol It is due now. I had an appointment to take it in this week. The last change was done at the appointed time at an Acura dealer in Indianapolis. Hope that isn't the case. Would've been done except couldn't get it to the dealer. We will see.

 

The message only comes on when you touch the brake to move the shifter. You can start the car and keep it running for 5 min. Non of the messages will come up. But as soon as I press the brake. Bingo. Can't wait until the car gets fixed. I miss my Acura.
