Can't switch between MP3 folders?
Hi all,
I just recently picked up an 05 RL. Been loving it every since I got it and this forum has been a wealth of information (thanks to everyone BTW!).
I've been spending some time trying to get CD-R's with my fav MP3's burned, which I can do no problem. I use MediaMonkey to manage my whole MP3 library.
My problem is, when I load up a CD with MP3's burned in certain folder structures in the RL, I can't switch between folders. I intentionally use one level of folders and Mp3's, rather than nest them deeply. I tried to keep it simple enough so I can at least sort by artist name.
Here's what I mean:
Folder 1
mp3 track 1
mp3 track 2
etc
Folder 2
mp3 track 1
mp3 track 2
etc
Folder 3
mp3 track 1
mp3 track 2
etc
In the audio console, when I click enter to see the folder lists. If I rotate the knob to Folder 2 and click Enter, it doesn't actually switch over to the MP3's in that folder. It doesn't actually do anything. I've tried waiting several minutes to see if it was a latency issue with the player reading the disc, but it never changes.
Also, I noticed if I skip forward several tracks it always shows the name of the first folder, even though I've skipped to a track in a different folder.
Am I missing something?

AFAIK, you can only do this if you burn by artist name, then album name.
You would have to fake out the artist name to subdivide like that.
I may be wrong; my experience is based on itunes.

thanks guys.
I think I may have figured it out.
When I burned the CD-R with my MP3's, the folders were as they were on my PC. Inside those folders are extra non-MP3 files like cover art JPG's, lyrics and some even have playlists. I went back and burned another copy using MediaMonkey's MP3 data cd option, but this time I unchecked all other files, so just folders and MP3's are burned. Popped that in the player and bingo, they came up. I figure the extra files must have been confusing the in car player somehow. I can now switch between folders now too. The folder lag is noticeable, but I can live with it.
So it seems the trick is to have folders and MP3 files, and no other files present in the structure. Also, no matter what, only the first folder name the reader see's is ever displayed. But the artist name does change.
Next up - time to experiment with DVD audio!!
