Are you using an OEM disc or a copy of the disc?

I had many lockups with 4.13. None so far with 4.55. Still, very annoying and slow nav system. Will try 4.64 soon

Well just got my car back from Acura. They ordered the entire navigation system. They said mine was messed up. They covered it and now it runs great. 4.64 is really great. I would recommend it

If you guys with 4.64 could try the "Find Nearest Gas Station" a few times as you drive and see if it locks up.

I had to revert back to 4.56A. 4.56A is old but it never locks up.

Quote: The '05 model cant be upgraded directly to 4.6x, you have to do it in two steps. First, an incremental upgrade using either a 4.3x or 4.5x DVD disc. Then after you've done this, you can then install the 4.6x disc.
Where do I find a 4.3x or 4.5x DVD nav disc? I have 4.63 disc but its a no go.

I have an 05 RL and tried to upgrade from 4.15B to both 4.64 and 4.73 with no luck. I was able to upgrade as far as 4.31C with no problems, but when I insert the 4.64 and 4.73 discs it just spins in a constant loop. I am able to get into the diagnostic menu with 4.64/4.73 loaded, but when I choose the "version" button it locks up for 30 seconds, flashes to the page with the "download" button and then reboots 2-3 seconds later. Another odd thing is that it on occassion brings up the ok screen, but there is no ok button and then it reboots.

I had posted a day or so ago that my nav unit was replaced due to a problem with the clock and that they placed my old disc (4.15B) back in there. I'm now wondering if the new system came with 4.64/4.73 and they couldn't get it to work so they simply put the old disc back in there. It seems odd to me that they could even get a new Nav unit with an old disc?

I'll try the newer discs in my 06 MDX later today or tomorrow and see if they work in there. If they do, then I'll the RL goes back to the dealer.

Unfortunately Acura, Alpine and the service centers do not seem to have their arms around this.

There are various versions of NAVI flash memory that certain DVD versions seem to be incompatible. Bottom line, Acura needs to be accountable and correct this. This should be plug and play as long as you plug a higer version than you are currently running. ANYONE in IT should not be unprepared for backward compatibility!

I see several potential issues:

1) NAVI upgrade DVDs were not regression tested across all NAVI flash versions for compatibility before being released.

2) Acura does not seem to have a compatibility matrix of NAVI Flash versions VS. DVD versions for predetermined compatibility. We'll just try another one!

3) Acura Tech support does not seem to have their arms around this to instruct techs (or owners) why DVD versions are not working correctly. They'd just assume replace $3K NAVI hardware hoping to get it right.

4) I suspect there was an arrogant assumption that every RL owner would plop down $185 for every (untested) DVD upgrade so the version upgrades would be stepped up one by one and no one would wait for pertinent updates, then upgrade - potentially skipping versions in the process.

5) #4 above was not communicated to techs or owners, causing incompatibility reports.

6) Acura seems unwilling to supply techs with not only a compatibilty matirx of FLASH vs DVD versions, BUT they also do not supply the various versions of the software to the techs to correctly align the FLASH with the DVD version you may have just purchased.

My expectations was that any higher version of a DVD I buy would be plug and play. For some, that seems to be the case. For others, it seems to be a crapshoot. We should NOT have to buy an software update and wonder IF it may work!

I have not updated my DVD since I bought my RL since every major artery in Tampa is under construction with new ramps, rerouted access roads, etc. When that is done (2010?) I would then buy a new DVD should it have the appropriate updates. Nothing else on the recent DVD updates have enough appeal to me to plop down $185.

My expectations are, that should I be jumping 3 versions higher, that it would be seamless are very, very low. Particulary since my NAVI FLASH version was changed to cure AcuraLink messaging issues I had. WHO KNOWS what DVD version is now compatible beyond what I am running from my purchase of the RL.

When I do buy a new DVD upgrade, and should it not work, my tech and I expect to be on the phone with Tech Support trying to wrangle which DVD version should be compatible with my FLASH version. Likely they will not know.

I have a 2005 as well and tried to upgrade to 4.31C and first it said "downloading software" and then came with "please check disc" message. I burned at slowest speed available on my burner with Nero. Anyone know what could be the problem here? Special software to burn?

I used imgburn and a Verbatim DL DVD with no problem. There have been comments made with regards to inferior blank DVDs such as memorex.

It could be your brand of burner. They are not all created equal. And 2X or 2.4X max for the burn. If your burner doesnt support these slower burns, get a different burner. Pioneer DVR216 is an excellent choice and $31 at Newegg. Also, DO NOT use Memorex media. Its been documented here to fail with the Acura NAV drive. Verbatim is known to work (also available through Newegg - you wont find it at WorstBuy, CircuitCity or Staples - they only sell crap media)

After reading the posts about bad discs/burners, it hit me that I might have that exact problem (I had been using my Dell laptop DVD burner). So, I went out and bought a good quality pioneer DVD burner along with some new DVD+R DL discs.

I didn't have any success with Nero, as the slowest speed it would burn at was 4x. Created quite a few coasters there....it could be my inexperience with the software settings though.

I was more familiar with Roxio and had good success creating discs from an ISO version of 4.63 at a burn speed of 2x using TDK media. Sony and Memorex DVD's burned at 2x failed to even boot up in the nav unit. I've ordered some Verbatim discs and will try those when they arrive.

I upgraded my MDX from version 4.31C to 4.63 without issue and also upgraded my RL from 4.15B directly to 4.63 without using any versions in between. They've both been working fine for a day or so without issue.

I recently had my nav unit in the RL replaced under warranty, so I"m not sure if that facilitated the painless upgrade path or not.

I have 4.73, but it was simply a dump of files directly from the nav disc to my computer and not an ISO image. I have not been able to get this to work at all, so I suspect an ISO image is the way to go.
