3G iPhone, 2.1 version and Acura HFL problem

It is true 2.1 3G iPhone having big problems with Acura's HFL. My 2006 RL can not receive incoming calls trough HFL because 2.1 version 3G iPhone is not comparable with HFL. Apple tech refused to revert my iPhone to 2.0 version (it works with current HFL, they had an old phone and I tested in my car), they told me that Acura should keep up with updatesjust like Infinity and Mercrdes does. I tried to revert myself from 2.1 to 2.0 but I am not computer suvy to make it work. Any help will be appreciated.

konst ms,
This is interesting! I wonder if we have different HFL systems. I tried two 2.1 phones and both of them had the same problem with my 06 HFL on incoming calls. I am going to see Acura dealer tomorrow to test my phone with different 06 RL. Apple told me that the fix is on its way with 2.2 update at the end of the year.

Thanks for your response.

Any one has 2006 RL and 3G 2.1 iPhone? Please let me know. I am going to see my Acura dealer this afternoon, may be I need new HFL unit installed. So far - 2005 and 2007 HFL work fine with 2.1 G3.

Tested my iPhone with 2007 RL: same issue. Acura offered to replace HFL, made the appointment for December 11 to replace it. Hoping that 2.2 update for iPnone 3G will resolve the problem with incoming calls.

Let us know what you find.

My suspicion is not the Acura HFL. Have you tried you old phone or another phone with the RL? I would guess they would be fine.

From what I am reading these issues are widespread with 3G iphones and in particular BMW, Nissan / Infiniti and Honda / Acura models. But it is not all iphone users. It also is affecting headsets and other Bluetooth devices.

Reading further, I am finding it is more related to software pushes ATT is making in some areas to address the 3G problems where iphone is not really delivering as promised. My network area has been having a lot of 3G fluctuations of late, even affecting my Moto Q9h (although it has been robust with my RLs HFL and fully capable with AcuraLink). This might explain why some iphone users are having issues, where others are not. It may be the ATT 3G network specific to your location.

Still speculation, but perhaps ATT is making 3G changes in your area and pushing out updates to your iphone which is impacting the Bluetooth functionality.

If your HFL works as before with your old or other BT phones, I would press more on ATT & Apple for the problems. The SHOULD be backward compatible!

Thanks TampaRL. The 2.2 update looks like solved the incoming calls issue but sound quality needs to be improve. My old original Moto Razor hade better stronger sound.

Agreed. Compared to the Razr I had prior, people tell me they can barely hear me with my iphone 3g...and yes BT volume is all the way up.

My incoming calls will ring through the HFL but when I accept the call all the audio transfers to the handset and the HFL turns off. Is this the issue everyone else is having? I drive an '06 TSX.

Has anyone else tested the 2.2 software update yet? I am hesitant to upgrade my phone.

Bucket, I have had the same problem since upgrading to 2.1. I upgraded to 2.2 and it dropped a call after accepting it. Sometimes it accepts. Sometimes it does not. I usually do a quick move on the iPhone to get it to go back to HFL. Pisses me off.

I went ahead an upgraded to 2.2, it fixed my issue. I didn't need to re-pair the device or anything. Does anyone know the procedure for starting a call on the phone and then getting it to transfer over the HFL? I am still having problems with that.

Initiate the call from the phone, then once it's connected, press the HFL button say say "Transfer". It will not transfer if the call hasn't connected - it will say "There is no call in progress."

I was having big issues with 2.1 on my iPhone 3G....incoming calls were frequently not registered by the system. The phone and car would ring and when I answered using the button on the steering wheel, the HFL would immediately dropped. 2.2 resolved this problem and I no longer have issues.

Thank you! I wasn't waiting until the call connected. All is well now.
