Is 2007 Nav Update DVD available for RL?

From reading these forums, I remember someone saying that an updated Nav disk becomes available oncer per year.

Does anyone know if this year's updated Nav disk for the RL is out? If so, how much does it cost and who can I order it from?

Please let me know. Thanks.

No, it's not available. I just checked for you.

You can check yourself periodically by just going here.

Typically they are released in the Fall. This fall, they will release the version for 2008. The pattern I have seen is that they run out soon after due to pent up demand, and then there are more available a month or two later. Last year, it seems that in the fall, they released 4.55 for 2007, an upgrade from 4.3x that was for 2006. Sometime during the year, maybe spring or summer, there was a small version update, 4.56, which was what was on the website. You can see the version updates at the same site above, and what the changes were version over version.

I am in a newer neighborhood and when I bought my O6 RL. My street was not in there.

Is there a way to find out if my street is now there or will be in the new update?

Yes. The navi DVD update is out. When I bought my '06 RL, I was running the white DVD, version 4.31C. I just bought white 4.56A. Check the Owner Link site at Acura, click on My Vehicles. U should see "Order NAVI DVD" underneath the info about your car. Click on that to go further. It costs $185. U order it from Alpine.

But I think that update is the one that came out last year. If I wait a few months, I think they are going to come out with a new update in October.

At least that's what I've been reading?

Correct, the 2008 disk should be out in 3 months or so. The nav disk available now is the 2007 version released last fall.

Correct, last time I checked, 8/9/07 it was 4.56. This week it is 4.62. I guess that is the new one.

New Features
One way streets (indicated with arrows on the 1/20 mile scale - turn on in Icon Options - "Other icons")

Loss of male voice prompts (voice prompts revert to female - regardless of previous setup setting)

Additional brand icons for restaurants, motels and other POIs

Updated maps and POIs

Auto Daylight Savings Time switching per new 2007 (March/November) schedule

Interesting - no more Male voice prompts.

A study once reported that police and fire personnel preferred female dispatchers on the radio. Found it more soothing.

I think the dual layer DVD is running out of room.

So help me here.

First - if this issue had not been previously addressed by Acura I am surprised and disappointed. It isn't exactly something that just came up - it has been around for quite some time.

Second - that disappointment may be well tempered on how big of an issue it is - exactly what problems are a result of this? Does the clock not display the correct time? Dos the Nav system not work?

The female that occasionally listens to mine didn't like the male voice. Also, for me anyway, the female voice is easier to understand with all the ambient noise when stepping out smartly.

I had a good feeling that adjustment for the new daylight saving time wasn't going to be a free patch. The dealers who said that were BS'ing people

Not a crisis, it just switches time on the old schedule before congress changed the law. it's not a bug. You can't blame Alpine or Acura for this nor can we expect them to ship tens of thousands of free DVD's because of it. It's just one of those things. $hit happens. I think we're lucky they even offered a patch. The Nav system on my 04 Sienna doesn't even change time automatically. I have to manually turn Daylight Savings ON or OFF at the right time.

I think the law was changed in late 05 - so I am just surprised it wasn't addressed in an earlier release.

My wife says what, no more male voice? She wanted them to add a male voice with a sexy foreign accent, not some Hollywood manufactured voice!
