00' RL Audio Trouble! Please Help!

Okay, I recently got a sound system upgrade. I had a high low converter installed in my 2000 RL. I am now running a 3200 watt Planet Audio amp. I was running the Alpine MP500 before that. My Alpine amp ran fine with the remote wire, however the Planet Audio amplifer will not turn on. When I try to turn it on with the remote wire I get an error code on my stock headunit. I have to jump the power to the remote everytime I want to have my bass. Anyone who can help I thank you in advanced!

We accept your apology.

Some amps can turn on with 5V and some turn on with 12V. Make sure the spec is the same as the voltage of the wire.

okay, I got the amp to turn on but it now says it is in protect mode and will not get out of it. I am still receiving an error code too =(. I don't think that the remote wire is giving the amp the actual turn on signal so it just wont turn on.

Make sure the outputs are not shorting together. Another, but unlikely, cause could be over heating. Amps usually have a thermal protection and current overload protection. The current overload could be tripped by a short or too heavy of a speaker load. The speaker load could be heavy because of two reasons: the speakers are connected in parallel (bridged) causing an effective resistance that is too low, or the speaker load itself could be too low. Some speakers are rated at 2 ohms and some amps will only drive 4 ohms.

Disconnect the speaker wires and see if the amp is still in protect mode. If it is and is not overheating, there may be an internal short.

FYI, in audio terms, the lower the resistance (ohms) the heavier the load.

Okay, Thanks you really got me thinking, I believe the subs are wired for 1 ohm, I am able to turn on the amp when I jump the power to the remote slot but for some reason the remote wire is not giving enough power to turn it on. I will check the allowed ohms on the amp itself. I may have to re wire the subs. Could the high low converter be to weak? The one thats hooked up seems pretty crappy, if I hooked up a different one could that help?

It may even be the amp, I have never heard any reviews for it, I used to have the MRP500 by alpine and that was a great amp that always powered on and always impressed me. I wanted something with more power for cheap, but I don't think it helped me.

The converter seems to me to be your smallest issue. You need to figure out why your amp isn't turning on. The manual will state whether you need 12V or 5V. Once that is confirmed, make sure your remote wire is supplying the correct voltage. It doesn't really matter where the voltage comes from. Any wire that has the right voltage and turns off/on with the ignition will do. Disconnect your speakers and make sure your power supply has a good connection. I doubt you will be able to run a 1 ohm setup. I assume you have two 2 ohm speakers bridged. You will likely need to connect each speaker to it's own output. Unless your amp is a mono. Is it?

this is the same exact amp I have. I also have a kenwood that would turn on just fine, only problem with the kenwood is that it over heated all the time. The planet audio doesn't seem to heat up ever.

It looks like 1 ohm should be fine to run.
