Interference/popping from center speaker?

I have an '06 RL that just started a popping/engine interference sound today. On my drive in this morning everything was perfect, on my way home it did it the entire way. I even shut the radio off and it still came through so I ruled that out. I did have Best Buy install a USA Spec radio adapter over a year ago, but that's the only modification that's ever been done.

It's definitely coming from the center channel and I'm almost certain that that's the only speaker affected. When I pulled into my garage and put the car in park the sound all but went away (very faint remnants). It starts back up again once the car's engine is fired back up.

Any ideas as to the culprit? I really don't want to drive to the Acura place for this issue, let alone pay to get it fixed.

I like to believe it has to do something with the active noise canceling since you said when the engine is running. It also working constantly once u turn on the car.

Not sure if this might help, but doesn't hurt to try and it's free! remove neg cable for a while (10 mins) and put it back on. Hopefully it will reset whatever the problem is. (be sure to have your radio codes ready)

Best of luck.

Does the sound increase with the cars RPMs?
Does it do it on all functions? (Aux, FM, AM, XM, Disc)
Did I read correctly that its happening when the radio is off too?

I will try this. I did just go and make sure that all of the cables were tight on the USA Spec unit and cranked the car up for 20-30 seconds and I didn't get the noise. I'll know if that was it over the next few days I suppose. If it still does it I'll disconnect the battery to reset things.

I'm not sure if it is the noise cancellation. I can put my finger over the car's mic to recreate that sound and it just isn't the same and has no affect on this popping sound I'm getting.

Yep, it does it on all functions, including when the radio is turned off completely. It doesn't really change with the RPM's, but the engine being on is definitely a requirement to get the sound it seems.

Sounds like something came loose, not a power or a ground, more like an input connection.

I have the same issue right now except its the passenger front speaker. Brought my car to the dealer because I have an extended warranty and they told me it was a speaker, changed the speaker and it still was acting up so they looked more into it and said there was a short in the tweeter. They changed the tweeter, told me everything was fixed but when i went to pick the car up sure enough it wasn't fix. That being said they looked at it again and said the problem is with the radio and that I should bring it to a specialist they refered. Im bringing it to the other guy tomorrow so maybe ill get a straight answer this time.
