Wood Steering Wheel and Shift Knobs?

Looking around at used 06 RL's, I see a mix of some cars that appear to have a slightly different style steering wheel ("more wood" is how I would describe it I guess LOL) and also on some cars a wood shift knob. I've seen these both on cars with or without the CMBS/PAX package, and I've seen some cars with the wood knob and a "plain" steering wheel so it doesn't seem like they necessarily were bundled together as an interior trim option package?

More often than not, it seems the cars with the "more wood" wheel also have the rear trunk lip spoiler.

Where these available factory options or are people doing something aftermarket?

I have a wood shift knob and rear deck spoiler, but not the wood steering wheel. The wood wheel is very pricey, about $400 plus another $100-$150 install. Some have installed themselves. I like the wood wheel, but hard to justify the expense, too many other things to spend $$$ on.

Actually, they were dealer-installed accessories, not factory options, on the 05-07 RL (not sure about 08). The quoted price for the wood wheel is expensive, but there are Acura dealers on eBay who sell them cheaper than list price. The wood shift knob is a separate item - it's an easy install, it just screws right on.

Yup, you are correct. Wrong choice of words. That would be the reason they would be under "accessories"

Really does enhance the interior of the car. But be warned, it is not even close to the rest of the car.

If you are mechanically inclined, the "wood" wheel is not too difficult to install yourself. Just have the right tools and be careful. Took me about an hour working slowly.

The installation instructions can be found at the bottom of the list HERE.

Yup, I installed mine all by myself, and I am not mechanically inclined. I have ten thumbs, too! Just unplug the airbag connector or POOF!

What do you mean, the woodgrain match isn't the same as the rest of the factory interior wood trim or something?

On all but non NAVI RLs (2007+ models) the dashboard is real wood (veneer), which has variations from car to car, and a depth that comes out in sunlight. The plood of the wheel tends to be darker and does not have the pearl effect the real maple veneer has.

Note that the wood trim on the doors and at the bottom of the center stack is also plood.

The shift knob is real wood, but it too may not 'match' the dash unless it coincidentally came from the same tree and stain that the dash veneer was tooled. It is just the random nature of real wood, especially when partnered with man made components. It is mostly noticeable in brightest sunlight but otherwise I think the wood wheel and shift nob nicely enhance the RLs interior.

and the steering wheel from what I understand is not actually wood, and does not come close to matching anything else. But it sure does look puurtee.

The wheel is plood. I cannot be real wood for crash safety.

Both accessories look excellent, however, and the contours of the plooden wheel are better in the hand than are those of the standard item.

Agree. I was actually more pleased with the tactile feel of the wood look wheel than just the visual upgrade to the cabin.

There are nicely placed thumb contours, high grade leather with dimpled texture and a sporty stitching.

I hemmed and hawed at the upgrade for about a year, and finally Rob144 convinced me. I have never regretted the upgrade and have loved the feel of this wheel and shifter knob each time I drive. It has given this excellent cabin a more upscale look AND feel.

I did get my knob for $89 and wheel for $269 new on Ebay. I have yet to see them for that price since (new, from an Acura Parts dealer)

Possibility?

Quick question, but would a 2000-2003 Acura TL knob fit?

I believe it will. I'm pretty sure any knob would fit since it is just a screw on, but Acuras will for sure. Another member here recently posted about the TL one working.

got mine from ebay also but pulled from a crashed RL cost ~$100 including the wood shift knob. installation is free... go to advance autopart to 'rent' the steering wheel puller... return it after u r done installing... take 15 min... very easy do it yourself...
