Wood shift knob

For those of you that bought the wood shift knob, how well did it match the wood in your car. I just got one and was disappointed it was a shade or two darker than my wood.

Thanks

Make sure you got the burlwood knob and not the mahogany. The dealer should swap it for you if it does not match the wood in your car.

Thanks Dr E. I understand there is only one part number for the 05 RL. Did yours match well?

Yes, mine also matches. I think dealers should throw it in with car as a "free" incentive. It does improve the interior in a subtle way.

Mine just arrived today - bought it on eBay from an Acura dealer. I don't like the match either. The part number on the box is 08U92-SJA-200. Is this the same number that those of you with perfect matches have?

Also, the shaft of the shift knob is chrome, not "satin" like the OEM. Same with yours that match?

That is the same part number mine had I *think*. I will double check, but I am pretty sure that was it and mine matches perfectly.

Oh, when I had bought mine the guy had said that some of them didn't match - so they ordered new ones before sending them out.

I returned to the dealer yesterday and the Service manager brought out to the car the three remaining they had in stock. None were a perfect match. On two the color match was better than my original but not perfect. I picked the one where the grain matched the best. It looks better but not perfect.

Yes the part number matched what is above and the base is chrome.

Mine matched great. You may be right about one part number. I had seen two options I believe for the 2006 model MDX; but you are right, there is only one option for the RL which is supossed to match well the interior wood. If yours doesn't, ask to see another. Sometimes different wood grains can look quite different. It sounds like in your 8:18 am post you did just this.

Thanks jfprl, and everyone who responded. I'll retrun it to the dealer and hope for a better match.

This is an example of an item best bought locally (where you can see what you're getting) rather than over the Internet as I did.

The wood in the RL is curly maple. Anyways, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the wood on the dash and the wood on the shift knob may not match - they're real wood and the fact that the shift knob is optional means that it may not have been cut from the same specimen as the veneer on the dash; ie both were not processed from the same wood at the same time.

Does anyone know if a 2005 leather knob will fit a 2002 RL? If I'm not mistaken, the shift knob is larger (in your hand) and I'm thinking about buying one for my 2002. Thanks, FFD

phile is exactly right, so today I went to a local dealer who had a siuft knbob that matched my wood trimmuch better.I swapped it fr the ne I bought mailorder and problem solved.

HOWEVER, after a lot of twisting I got the old shift knob off, but the new one doesn't seem to "grab" onto anything when I try to thread it onto the shaft, it just keeps turning. Is there a trick to this or am I missing a plastic bushing of some sort?

There isn't any trick to it - it just turns to go on and off. Does the original (leather) shift knob twist on without problems? If so, just go back to the dealer and try to swap with another one with match that will go on properly.

I had a 2000 RL before and I don't think the 2005 knob is much larger than the OEM in that car. Why don't you go with a Momo knob like this one www.ltbmotorsports.com/coballook1.html I installed one in my 2000RL and I loved it! It has a universal attachment so the thread does not match but it mounts solidly and it feels great. I'll sell you my 2005 RL knob if you want it.

That is a good looking shift knob, and it ties the existing aluminum and wood trim together nicely.

I'll go over to the local dealer and take a look at one again. If I decide that I want to go in this direction, I'll let you know. I also though about putting an MDX knob on mine as they have the wood and leather combination. My car has parchment interior. What color is the one that you have?
