Wiper Blades

I just went onto Rain X website to see which blades fit my 2006 RL and they seem to have skipped the 2005 and 2006 years for the list. Anyone out there have Rain X blades on their 2006 RL, and if so, which year fits?
Thanks.

I noticed that the other day. The 2007 blades are the same size as the 05 and 06 ones - they should match.

Are you thinking of replacement inserts or replacement blades? These days its hard to find just the rubber insert. Are there any aftermarket replacement inserts?

Yes. I use the PIAA Super Silicone inserts. They slide right in. I bought the latest set at Autobarn.com. Much better than the stock wiper inserts.

dwboston, do the PIAA silicone inserts slide into the RL's OEM wipers and lock into place? The autobarn website states that the PIAA inserts are for PIAA blades only?

Yes - they slide in and lock into place. The part of the blade that holds the insert is identical between the RL OEM wipers and the PIAA blade. I've replaced the inserts twice on my RL's and also on my wife's MDX with no problem.

I went to autobarn website and they don't list the blades for RL years 2005+
What size insert did you get?

Assuming that you are talking abou the PIAA's, you don't need blades, just the inserts. 28" for the driver's side and 19" for the passenger side.

I have PIAA Super Silicone replacement inserts. The best wipers I've ever had and I can't imagine ever using anything else. After more than a year, they still wipe clean and are silent. I bought them from CarDomain.com but I don't think they carry just the inserts any more. Autobarn however, does...Driver's side (28") is PIA94070 and the passenger side (19") is PIA94048.

Don't they come with some glass treatment that you have to apply to the windshield?

I bought the Rain-X wipers at walmart for about 8 bucks each. Removed the insert and replaced it into the original wiper frame. Worked great for about $17 bucks total.

I couldn't find the PIAA Super Silicone wipers locally and, knowing they add like 35hp to my car , I had to have them. So, I ordered from Autobarn and everything was going fine until I decided to buy another item I can't find locally: the rear window wiper for our Escape. At that point, the Autobarn system glitched and I had to get on the phone with a quaaludian service rep that took 15 minutes to find the items even as I read him the part numbers from the site. Painful.

The wiper inserts for the RL are in stock and cost 9 and 7 dollars, respectively.

Is there a trick to replacing the inserts? I have not done that before but would gladly do so to save some $$. Thanks for your help.

i would remove the blades just so you aren't messing with the wiper arm in the up position only to have it fall back onto the windshield only to have it crack the glass... yeah i made that mistake on my mom's car... i would also put a towel or something else on the glass so the wipe arm has something to rest on other than glass while your putting the new inserts on. just my 2 cents though.

My wife's 07 needed new blades. The engineer who came up with the wiper design should be shot. Replacing refills is a pain in the A##!!! Why did they have to re-invent the wheel. I can change the blades on my 97 Ford van OR my two 69 Porsches in 5 minutes without any tools.

As Bugs Bunny would say - What a maroon!!!

It is a pain in the butt to change the wiper blades on the RL. I had to do it twice and it took about ten minutes, vs. a couple of minutes on my other cars.

took mine to the dealer, they replaced them for free and even dumped my old one's even though I asked them to trunk them just in case.

and when I say free, I mean I bought a new set of PIAA silicone inserts and they installed em...

It took me about 15 minutes to get the new PIAA's installed. Even though it is a pain in the "you know what", its better than paying the $35 my dealer asked to do the same.

www.autobarn.com

Very easy to find. Make sure to measure your wipers first to get the correct length. Oh yeah, look online for coupons. I think I found one for free s/h.

moist

The moisture we're getting in San Diego skies reminded me of how well the PIAA wipers work and how very worth-it it was to go through the effort of buying these blades. Perfect performance.

grinning and relaxed

All this SoCal (actually, AllCal) rain has me again reminded about how well the PIAA wiper blades work. So, if you're reading this and not stoked with your wiper performance, scroll up, get a link and get them ordered. This is a simple, cheapass upgrade that you'll enjoy every time the blades swipe your windshield.

Put my new PIAA's in last night, first time I have changed them on the RL myself. Took a little time to figure it out but now that I know how it's actually quite easy, just grasp the locked side hard and pull.

I've no end of problems with wiper insert replacements, plus I discarded my metal "spine" when the original set was trashed.

I'll try the PIAA brand. Thanks for the tip.

autobarn did not have PIAAs in stock, ordered from tire rack for $30 shipped...retardical for a pair of inserts but I didn't want to waste time waiting for shipping via amazon.

Reason for purcahse? I had my car serviced and they removed my 2 year old PIAAs and replaced em with brand new Honda wipers.

One wipe and a layer of thin gray matter covered my window. Game over crappy wiper!

May be expensive for a pair of inserts but I've had mine on the car since early 2007 and they're still going strong.
